Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu was dealt a serious blow by his nation’s Supreme Court, even as Israel dealt a serious blow to Hamas.

From CBS News. Israel’s Supreme Court struck down part of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s controversial judicial overhaul on Monday, a move that could exacerbate political tension in the country as it changes its footing in the war with the Palestinian militant group Hamas. The judicial overhauls sparked months of protests after Netanyahu took office for a new term as prime minister a year ago.

Have you taken your place on the wall?

With its ruling, Israel’s highest court overturned a law passed in July that prevented Supreme Court judges from overruling government decisions by declaring them unreasonable. The law was the first major part of the controversial plan by Netanyahu’s far-right coalition government to curb the judicial branch’s power and give more authority to the national legislature.

The measures drew accusations from Israel’s political opposition that Netanyahu was deliberately eroding the country’s democratic system of checks and balances — right as he faced multiple personal legal battles over alleged corruption. The war with Hamas, sparked by the militant group’s unprecedented Oct. 7 terror attack on southern Israel, united the country, but did not resolve the underlying division stoked by Netanyahu’s formation of the country’s most far-right government ever last year. …

The Israeli Supreme Court’s landmark decision to strike down part of Netanyahu’s planned judicial overhaul could reopen the fissures in Israeli society that preceded the war against Hamas.

The plan sparked months of mass protests and rattled the cohesion of Israel’s military. Those divisions were largely put aside after Oct. 7.

Benny Gantz, a rival of Netanyahu’s who joined the three-member War Cabinet, called on all sides to put aside their differences and focus on the war. “These are not days for political arguments. There are no winners and losers today,” he said.

In Monday’s decision, the court narrowly voted to overturn a law that prevents judges from striking down government decisions they deem “unreasonable.” The law passed in July was the first part of the government’s plan to curb the authority of unelected judges. …

From Axios. The fact Hamas deputy political leader Saleh al-Arouri was killed in a drone strike on Tuesday likely didn’t surprise many. Al-Arouri himself had long expected to be killed.

The big picture: The 57-year-old was one of the most wanted men in the Middle East, with close ties to the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps and Hezbollah. …

  • Al-Arouri was a target for Israel for years, but it hesitated to try to kill him in Istanbul and later in Beirut in order not to harm relations with Turkey and avoid provoking Hezbollah from starting a war, Israeli officials said.
  • But after Hamas attacked Israel on Oct. 7 and killed at least 1,200 people according to Israeli officials, Israel was ready to take more risks. …

Background: Al-Arouri was from a village near Ramallah and helped found Hamas’ military wing — Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades. He spent 15 years in Israeli prison before being deported to Jordan in 2010. Soon after, he was deported to Syria but had to leave for Turkey as a result of the rift between Hamas and the Assad regime.

  • While in Turkey, al-Arouri established the West Bank headquarters of Hamas, which is in charge of recruiting operatives and planning attacks against Israeli soldiers and civilians. …

Two of the Hamas members who were killed with al-Arouri in Beirut were the commanders of Hamas’ military wing in Lebanon, which in recent months conducted attacks against Israeli outposts on the border.

  • Al-Arouri was also the point person in Hamas for military coordination with Hezbollah and with Iran’s Quds force.

Zoom out: The killing of al-Arouri is a major blow to Hamas. He’s the most senior Hamas leader who has been killed since the Oct. 7 terrorist attack.

  • But Hamas political leader Ismail Haniyeh tried to play down the impact on Tuesday, saying in a televised address that like the previous assassinations of its members, the organization’s operation won’t be influenced. …

As political tensions flare and terrorist leaders fall, over 100 hostages remain in terrorist captivity. Share your prayers for Israel and the hostages below.

I pray LORD, that YOU would strengthen Prime Minister Netanyahu and give him wisdom to deal with this in YOUR way. Not only him but all of the good leaders in Israel. Keep them all strong in their focus in this war, with strategies to win it, that come from YOU. Also, LORD, I lift up all the military leaders that make plans and carry out the various strategies of winning this war as soon and as safely as is possible, for the sake of all humanity. Please give them extreme wisdom and protection as they procede. Ps. 91 over every one of them. The Blood of Jesus covering each one of them. Help them take out the evil vicious war mongers and leaders of Hamas, and whomever is sold out to satan. I THANK YOU, LORD JESUS YESHUA for saving eternally as many people as possible in this most difficult situation and war. I give YOU the PRAISES for being in charge of what is going on, and Ruling and Reigning through it. Open the people’s eyes to YOU, and wake them up, in JESUS’ NAME. AMEN.

New International Version

Psalm 33 Two Olives trees Became one as it originally and bare witness The 2 witnesses!

1 Sing joyfully to the Lord, you righteous;
    it is fitting for the upright to praise him.
2 Praise the Lord with the harp;
    make music to him on the ten-stringed lyre.
3 Sing to him a new song;
    play skillfully, and shout for joy.

4 For the word of the Lord is right and true;
    he is faithful in all he does.
5 The Lord loves righteousness and justice;
    the earth is full of his unfailing love.

6 By the word of the Lord the heavens were made,
    their starry host by the breath of his mouth.
7 He gathers the waters of the sea into jars[a];
    he puts the deep into storehouses.
8 Let all the earth fear the Lord;
    let all the people of the world revere him.
9 For he spoke, and it came to be;
    he commanded, and it stood firm.

10 The Lord foils the plans of the nations;
    he thwarts the purposes of the peoples.
11 But the plans of the Lord stand firm forever,
    the purposes of his heart through all generations.

12 Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord,
    the people he chose for his inheritance.
13 From heaven the Lord looks down
    and sees all mankind;
14 from his dwelling place he watches
    all who live on earth—
15 he who forms the hearts of all,
    who considers everything they do.

16 No king is saved by the size of his army;
    no warrior escapes by his great strength.
17 A horse is a vain hope for deliverance;
    despite all its great strength it cannot save.
18 But the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear him,
    on those whose hope is in his unfailing love,
19 to deliver them from death
    and keep them alive in famine.

20 We wait in hope for the Lord;
    he is our help and our shield.
21 In him our hearts rejoice,+++

The Israeli Supreme Court has taken to itself that which should be only the responsibility of Israel’s elected leaders.
Israel’s Supreme Court is totally out of order and worse, most of them are humanistic left-leaning judges whose decisions are usually at odds with what God declares is righteous.
Those facts, plus this current decision which was done in the midst of a war and all because two of the judges are retiring and wanted to pass this before they left the scene is seen by many of us in Israel as a stab in the back.
Please pray for God to watch over Isaiah 1:25-27

It appears that Israeli “Lawyers” are exactly the same greedy power-hungry parasites that their “profession” demonstrates the whole world over.
Let them begin to understand that there is a HUGE difference between the words Elected, Appointed and Liability. The latter has the benefit of being short-term, but effects both the previous two in different ways.
God help “Lawyers” understand their situation and resulting vulnerability. Amen.
