I Prayed have prayed
Lord, we pray that You would repair our broken, post-Christian culture. Promote unity, God, and help us to share Your gospel with those around us.
Reading Time: 3 minutes

It is never too late for God to fix our broken culture. Let’s put our faith in Him and share our stories of his goodness with the world. This article is a follow up to Retreat or Advance? on IFApray.org.

From Christian Headlines. Let’s begin with some good news: a seventeen-year-old who was diagnosed with sickle cell disease at the age of eight and given a twenty percent chance of survival has been accepted at Harvard, where he will study medicine. Hanif Mouehla told People, “Watching the medical center as a whole, that was something I really wanted to emulate and caused me to want to [choose] medicine, specifically being a hematologist.”

Get involved in state level prayer with IFA.

His story caught my eye because of a Gallup survey released yesterday: Americans’ confidence in higher education has fallen to 36 percent, sharply lower than in 2015 (57 percent) and 2018 (48 percent). Confidence among Democrats has fallen by only 9 percent (68 to 59 percent), but it has fallen among Republicans by 37 percent (56 to 19 percent). …

Is America destined to become permanently the “Divided States of America”? As we face unprecedented threats from China, artificial intelligence, and climate and pandemic challenges, the question is truly urgent.

Hope for greater unity can be found . . .

“IF YOU TELL AN INSPIRING STORY”

Tish Harrison Warren is an Anglican priest and brilliant opinion writer for the New York Times. In her latest column, she interviews Eboo Patel, an American Muslim and founder and president of Interfaith America, a Chicago-based nonprofit that seeks to promote cooperation across religious differences.

When she asked Patel what encourages him about the state of religious discourse in America, he responded: “Catholic sisters just keep on doing what Catholic sisters do, which is taking care of poor people. There are ten thousand migrants in Chicago that leadership recently welcomed into the city. But they had not adequately prepared for where those people would sleep. Well, guess who’s taking care of them? Largely Catholic Charities and other faith-based organizations.

“Few people truly recognize the role that religious communities play in America’s civic infrastructure—hospitals, social service agencies, our colleges, our K-through-12 schools.” . . .  “If you tell an inspiring story, people will want to move in that direction. If you only tell a terrible story about America, then people will think that terribleness is inevitable.”

Hanif Mouehla’s story is an example: whatever your confidence in American higher education, you may think more highly of Harvard after learning that the university accepted Mouehla and that he chose to go there. …

“WHEN NECESSARY, USE WORDS”

It is always too soon to give up on God. It is, therefore, too soon to give up on his ability to transform our post-Christian and even anti-Christian culture. So, let’s find a way today to be someone’s “servants for Jesus’ sake” today. Then let’s find ways to use our faith stories to “proclaim … not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord.”

Do the people who know you know that Jesus is your Lord? Will you explain that your acts of kindness and service are inspired by Jesus’ grace and empowered by his Spirit? Will you do good intentionally and publicly for God’s glory? …

Do you have a story of God at work in your community, state or nation today? Please share in the comments . . .

Hi. I try to send letters to our elected officials but, the sample letters that are given are way too long. They are literally only allowing three lines of text. I had to get rid of most of the message and bring it down to the basics. I just wanted you to know that the letters are way too long to send.

I see just how divided the Church is from all of these comments. When there is division, there is weakness and little victory. Our enemy understands this and uses it; he uses unity as a power throughout the earth n There is Great Power in Unity!
Jesus prayed that we would be as One! Our Founders, all from different walks and persuasions knew this! If they had let their personal judgments come into play, the United States would Never have happened. Protestants would have been to upset that Catholics were included and it could possibly lead to including others, including Jews! God did just that, and a Jewish man, Haym Salomon, funded the Revolutionary War! That is why the USA is an absolute miracle! Europe purged and killed over and over because of that religious spirit! God was calling this Nation to something More, never seen in World History! Unified People’s and a Unified Government. Our Founding Fathers knew it, this Grand Experiment!
That Unity became the foundational pillar of this nation!
I pray that we all Repent, individually and corporately. 2 Chronicles 7:14….Let’s live it out! Let’s call for it! The Good Samaritan was NOT a Jewish believer and Yeshua commended him! The Religious were deeply offended but Jesus was putting the Religious Spirit on notice. He was going to take it to the Cross and destroy it!

Brothers and sisters in Christ are to seek peace, be peacemakers, love enemies, pray for those who persecute us, be like Christ, be slow to speak, quick to listen and slow to get angry… We fall right into many traps and scemes of the enemy when we post hastily and attack one another in a forum that is supposed to encourage prayer for all nations, especially our hurting and broken land. May God have mercy on us all, there is none that is righteous except God our Father, Jesus His Son, and the blessed Holy Spirit. In Christ we are a new creation and the old way of doing things must pass away. We are called to a higher way, a holy way, a way that lives by every word that proceeds from the Father. Let’s hear what He said… There is a great need to walk in the unity of the Spirit and love in a way that is kind, restorative, attractive and compassionate towards weaker and misinformed brothers and sisters and those who don’t know Christ. Much need of repentance, silence before God, His word, the Spirit of everlasting life and searching our own hearts in humble and honest contrition needs to occur in our individual prayer times and corporate communion gatherings so that we can be deeply cleansed of sin by the precious blood of Christ. Sins of judging others, hasty words of division, strife, bitterness, sins of omission, lack of prayer before we act and speak, selfishness, greed, envy, critical spirits, worldliness etc… I am chief of sinners Paul said and he was a lot further along in sanctification than us. He said to follow him only as he followed Christ. May we all learn the humble and obedient way of our Lord Jesus who lives to make intercession for us. May we learn to make intercession for others in Him so that we please our Father and do and be what He has called us to do and be. God have mercy on us sinners. May God show us all our great need of the fullness of Christ and the dignity of one another as image bearers created with a special love and purpose that needs redemptive love and greater understanding of His purposes.

Dear Father in heaven, Holy is Your Name. May Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Please give us this day our daily bread. Forgive us as we forgive others. Help us to turn away from temptation and protect us from the evil one. You and only You have the Kingdom and the Power and the Glory forever.
Amen and Maranatha!

JESUS CHRIST the same yesterday, today and forever! Muslims don’t worship the risen CHRIST! Catholics give Mary prominence alongside our SAVIOUR Who died for us which isn’t Biblical! The only unity will be among those that are born-again and serve JESUS as LORD!
FATHER GOD please send laborers to YOUR church so they will know YOU in JESUS NAME!

I noted your comment on our Blessed Mother and the Catholic Church deems her most appropriately and
veraciously as Co-Mediatrix and Mother of God. She is not co-redeemer as our Lord Jesus is Savior and only
he alone can redeem us from the slavery of sin and save us from eternal damnation. But, as Mother of our Savior,
and born without any taint of original sin, she has the most privileged and unique role amongst all the Saints and
Holy Ones in paradise to intercede for us poor miserable sinners. Why wouldn’t God, The Father Almighty, grant
such a status to her, not to be a mere instrument for Jesus to be born into the world, but to be the New Eve, wed
to her beloved son and Savior Jesus, the New Adam. As Holy Mary herself exclaimed to the Archangel Gabriel, “let
it be done according to thy word”, this self-effacing humility reflects that of her eternal son, Second Person of The Most
Holy Trinity, who was certainly pleased to dwell in her precious womb, take on his human nature and bear our grotesque
disfigurement of sin upon himself and share that awful pain and suffering with her on that Good Friday.

    Sincerely,

    Vincent

I believe our country has seen its best days decades ago, i.e., the era of
the mid-fifties when my parents courted and came before our Lord in
the sacrament of holy matrimony in 1959. Padre Pio had aptly stated that
Satan is on a leash, not to come within his proximity and never to concede
one’s will to him lest we perish in the depths of hell. Today’s gospel reading
is applicable to us here in the United States when our Blessed Lord said to
the towns of Chorazin and Bethsaida, “Woe to you , Chorazin! Woe to you,
Bethsaida! For if the mighty deeds done in your midst had been done in
Tyre and Sidon, they would long ago have repented in sackcloth and ashes..
But I tell you, it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of
judgment than for you.” When our Lord’s own bishops spit in his very
face each day with their pathetic complicity with this secular world,
don’t repent and have not one iota of interest in admonishing people
to repent pronto, then we will wind up where the “fire is not quenched
and the worm never dies.” Yes, a country that has no belief in and fear
of Hell itself has already manifested its irrevocable states of eternal
hatred, rebellion and impenitence. This is the reality here in America
and may the Lord grant as many as possible to die in a state of grace
now and at the hour of their natural death to escape the terrors of
eternal death.

Sincerely,

Vincent

This past Sun night I had trouble sleeping. When that happens I always pray myself back to sleep. Before going to bed I read a beautiful story about the intercessors in the Soviet Union from 1982-89 and how their group grew over that time. Just before the wall came down 70,000 of them prayed. On Sun night I had a vision of intercessors hand in hand all around the United States. What a Border Patrol that will be!

“Repair the post-Christian culture”?
Please explain what you are telling people to pray.

    July 18, 2023

I’m thinking repairing the culture is by one person at a time being deeply healed from bitterness, anger against God. Our own adult son speaks so horribly against the Lord, it hurts me so bad. We raised him in Jesus, in church, now he is determined not to go. Maybe praying for reconciliation between people and the Lord would be a start? Humbling themselves, repenting, receiving healing from things that made them back away from Him.

Keep praying for your son, Mary. I’ve seen this turn around in amazing ways for family members. Here is the Bible verse that bolstered my faith during that time:

“So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.” ~ Acts 16:31

I love your thoughts on reconciliation and healing from things separating people from God; great post! God bless!

Exactly! Our GOD tells us that life and death is in the power of the tongue! I bind the “post Christian” narrative no matter what it seems like! FATHER GOD we claim America and Americans for YOUR Glory and YOUR Kingdom! We decree and dedicate America to YOU just as our forefathers did in JESUS MIGHTY NAME! Amen!

The comment below echoes my own concern that you have misjudged this article by supporting it as a positive expression of Christian love. These illegal immigrants are being encouraged by the hierarchy of the Catholic church (not all Catholics) to come here because the Church is making money by doing it.

This article does not speak to the reality that Chicago is hurting it’s own citizens by “welcoming” these people into their city. This is not legal, moral or fair for them to do this to Americans and our future to make people comfortable. This isn’t the answer to the problem. Sending them home is. You missed the mark on this one and it should be corrected.

Catholic charities is one of the NGO’s being paid by the federal government to facilitate the arrival and assimilation of illegal immigrants in the U.S. In doing so, they are aiding in the human traficking situation of woman and children that is happening in this country. They are not an agency to be touted as doing a “good thing”.

If “unity” in our nation means praising and cooperating with Muslims, and having confidence in universities that turn students into Marxists, then we need to stay divided! Remember Jesus said he came to bring a sword…division between good and evil!

I agree with you Hope that we must be extremely careful when dealing with the “Interfaith” movements. Whoever posted this story didn’t include the entire article. Out of curiosity I went to the article and found a beautiful testimony to Jesus and encouragement to spread His Word following this excerpt. Be wise as serpents….

Agree, Hope, and others here. Sad but true. We cannot naively support evil in a rush to “unity.”

I am thinking about the parable of the 10 virgins, 5 wise and 5 foolish. Pastor Troy Brewer (and others) have Youtube videos with teachings about some saved Christians who will go to heaven, but will first miss the rapture and the Marriage Supper of the Lamb (5 foolish virgins) and will have to go through the Tribulation, because they insisted on loving what God hated (abortion, gay marriage, transgender mutilation surgeries on children, open borders, etc.,) and hating what God loved (sanctity of the unborn, marriage between one man and one woman, etc.) and they will need to learn lessons about not calling evil good in the Tribulation before they can enter heaven. He points out that all 10 virgins were chosen (read: saved,) but only the 5 wise made the wedding (read: Rapture) in time. Believers in Jesus will go to heaven, but we still need to be wise about God’s heart, and about what HE says is good and evil.
