I Prayed have prayed
Father, Your word is true. Even when we don’t see progress made for righteousness in government, You've still said You're willing to heal our land. Help us meet Your conditions for mercy.

Analysis. Speculation abounds in the Church today about the condition of our nation. Are we under judgment? Or under mercy? You’ll hear the one thing preached from this pulpit, but over at that pulpit, you’ll hear the other thing preached.

Of course, there is room for discussion on both sides of the judgment fence.

The fact that judgment is inevitable is biblical. We will all stand before the judgment seat of God one day, and we will each give an account to Him. Even nations will eventually be judged as sheep nations or goat nations (which I believe has to do with how a given nation treats Israel, though others may believe differently).

But are we, as a nation, currently experiencing the judgment of God? Or are we still under His dispensation of mercy?

I personally believe that we are still under mercy. And in case it encourages you today, I want to share why I think so.

Here are three of the primary reasons I believe the United States of America, as a whole, is still under the mercy of God, rather than under His judgment:

  1. This nation was founded specifically for the purpose of seeking God, and God will not forget that.

When the Pilgrims first came to America, they risked life, limb, and fortune to establish a place where they could seek God without religious persecution. Their fortunes were risked and their blood was spilled in order to create a safe place for holiness. God never forgets a seed — and surely not the seeds of lives sowed for such a purpose.

  1. God has always spared the righteous when they cry out to Him.

Evil may be under judgment in America, and I hope it is. (And even though we don’t always see evidence that the wicked are being punished, we should keep praying for that evidence!)

However, even if the wicked are being judged, the biblical pattern has always been that God has spared His people who cry out to Him. Think of what Jesus said in Luke 18:

Then He spoke a parable to them, that men always ought to pray and not lose heart, saying:

“There was in a certain city a judge who did not fear God nor regard man. Now there was a widow in that city; and she came to him, saying, ‘Get justice for me from my adversary.’ And he would not for a while; but afterward he said within himself, ‘Though I do not fear God nor regard man, yet because this widow troubles me I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.’ ”

Then the Lord said, “Hear what the unjust judge said. And shall God not avenge His own elect who cry out day and night to Him, though He bears long with them? I tell you that He will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He really find faith on the earth?” (Luke 18:1–8 NKJV).

We generally apply this passage to persistent prayer for our own needs, and we should. But beloved, the health, safety, security, and holiness of our own nation is one of our needs too. And look at what Jesus said: “Shall God not avenge His own elect who cry out day and night to Him, though He bears long with them? I tell you that He will avenge them speedily.”

As an intercessor for America, you have been crying out to God day and night. And we have Jesus’ specific promise that God WILL answer and avenge us when we pray! Yes, it sure seems like He is “bearing long” with us. We wish He would bear “shorter” — and hurry up already to fix everything that is wrong with our nation.

However, friend, don’t miss the point: that God does hate injustice; He is a good God and a good Father; and He will avenge His elect! And yes, “His elect” includes YOU and me and all of us together!

  1. At least some of God’s people are meeting His conditions for healing the land.

God has laid out very specific conditions for what we must do to see Him heal our land:

“… if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land” (2 Chronicles 7:14 NKJV).

It is true that perhaps not all Christians are humbling themselves, repenting, praying, seeking God’s face, and turning from their wicked ways. Hey, it’s also true that not all those who call themselves Christians are even saved.

But at least some people are, and God has always been willing to listen to even one intercessor.

Think about Abraham. When the Lord came down to see Abraham in person and tell him how He planned to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah, Abraham interceded. And God listened to Abraham’s intercession, acceding to everything Abraham asked of Him!

Perhaps the problem was that Abraham stopped too soon. If he had kept going and asked God to save the city even for one righteous person, would God have done it? I personally believe He would have!

Think also about Jonah. Jonah was sent to a wicked city to proclaim their entire destruction. But these very undeserving idol worshippers listened to Jonah’s message and repented! God saved the city accordingly, even though self-righteous Jonah didn’t appreciate God’s mercy.

Beloved, when it comes to saving a nation, even one righteous intercessor will do the trick. If those interceding are more than one, mercy is a done deal.

After all, God Himself said:

“So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one” (Ezekiel 22:30 NKJV).

Did you catch how specific the Lord was in that scripture? He sought for “a man.” He found not “one.” If there had been ONE person willing to stand in the gap before the Lord for this land, the Lord would have been able to refrain from destroying it.

Friend, it is not God’s will that any should perish — but that all should come to repentance.

Even though I personally want God to judge wickedness and evil in our land, He bears long with us in order to give those wicked ones a chance to repent. The time will come, and may be here now, when their chance at grace ends.

Regardless of God’s timing, however, He is listening to even one intercessor who is praying for our nation. And we have lots more than one! Thousands of people are interceding daily for the U.S. through this IFA website alone, to say nothing of all the people praying in their churches and prayer closets from sea to shining sea and around the world.

Do we really believe God is unjust to forget our prayers? Do we really believe that His mercies have changed from the days of Sodom and Gomorrah? Do we think that only Jonah’s message saved a nation, when we carry a far superior message, since we now have the details of the cross of Jesus Christ?

I believe we are still under God’s mercy.

His mercies are new every day, and His judgment — when it happens — is swift and sure. Furthermore, when God judges a nation, there is never any doubt that judgment is happening. His judgment is rather obvious.

Think about the times when God had to judge His people Israel in Bible times, and shortly after the times portrayed in the Bible. When God allowed foreign kings to come in and destroy Judah and Israel in the days of Nebuchadnezzar and others, the destruction was obvious and devastating. God also allowed judgment to fall on Jerusalem in A.D. 70, when Titus besieged Jerusalem and destroyed it.

Friend, if we were under judgment rather than mercy, we’d know it.

I know times are hard. We are experiencing many consequences of allowing evil in our land. We are reaping the fruit of silence among Christians, for we have been too silent while we watched and allowed evil to rise up in our land over past decades.

But America still stands, and God’s promise to heal her still holds true. I cling to His word, for God is not a man, that He should lie. If even one person stands in the gap before Him, He will spare our land. If His people meet His conditions, He will not only spare but also HEAL our land as well.

There is hope for America, beloved. So much hope. Will you cast off despair and doubting today and continue to watch on the wall to see what He will say to you?

If you’ll keep praying for America, believing God to save her, leave a comment below.

Yes, I for one am willing to stand in the gap for America. I truly believe that if America goes down our entire world will follow. Praying that God’s mercy and favor is still upon us and that He will use us in these last days to lead many to Christ!

During the last administrations 4 years we were greatly blessing Israel. I wondered why given, Genesis 12:3 “I will bless those who bless you and curse those who curse you” why are we now followed by a terrible time where we are both not blessing Israel and not being blessed. What immediately came to mind is: Gen 50:20 “What you intended to harm, God intended for good.”
So now my prayers have gone from fervently asking the LORD to correct what is going on in this country to giving HIM thankful prayers for however he is using what is going on to restore us as one nation under GOD.

Your words are encouraging and hopeful for God’s intervention on behalf of our country (USA) to bring us back to a morally fit nation again or take us home, soon. We must never forget that the day may come, even in America, where believing Christians, saved by His grace and mercy, may have to become martyrs. I pray with all my heart that consequence never happens in this country. Elsewhere, this is a daily occurence……..believers being murdered for their faith. May He have mercy on America once again. In the Most Holy Name of Jesus Christ I pray.

Jamie, you speak my language.
Too many (even Christians) don’t look below the surface.
What’s happening and the spiritual messages that lie therein go far deeper than the surface and we need to be willing to go there ourselves in order to truly see God at work.

God does not always spare His people when they call upon Him. Read Hebrews 11. Also, we were founded on Christian beliefs BUT as a Nation we have departed from those beliefs. I pray for a revival to sweep our land, but it is only posponing the suffering we as believers must go through in these end times, as the Bible predicts. The deception and delusions of people around us (widely accepted transgender fluidity and abortion) and the collapse of our government into absolute corruption are signs that we must prepare ourselves to stand by pressing into God.

I agree entirely with the fact that we have departed from our Christian heritage. One of the things to remember about judgment is that the official and accepted stance of the nation is often what is measured. (Think Old Testament Kings). Also God often pronounces judgment and then gives time and opportunity to change and then if it doesn’t happen the judgment takes place. This means that we could be in a place of judgment that has not been enacted yet because of God’s mercy. But that time will end without repentance. http://www.repentance.us

I have continually prayed for my family, my relatives, my friends, my coworkers, my students, their families, my church, the righteous in Federal and State governments, for the repentance of those able to be saved, and for God’s will to be done with regard to unjustice. Jamie, For what reason did you ask this question? Was it to try and give hope to people who continue to pray for our nation but continue to see the forces of darkness march in and bring destruction to our society? If so, Bless you for your efforts. You have written many articles on this subject. It is obvious that your motives are to help people cope with disappointment we feel daily. I was in this place for many years and then I came across scriptures that showed me my understanding of my relationship with God was in error.
In 1Cor 15:19, If in Christ we have hope in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied. Paul is talking to Christians here, those in Christ. When our hopes in the things of this world, even the welfare of our nation, outweigh our hope of the fulfillment of the redemption of all creation through Christ, we are to be pitied. It is this hope that brings the strength to endure the trials that are upon us. Without this hope foremost in our minds, we get tempted to focus on the chaos. We get fearful and lose the peace God has for us.
Let us get back to the question you asked. Should the answer to the question change our faith in God? is not God sovereign? Is He not the potter and we are the clay?
In Rom 9:21-24,
Has the potter no right over the clay, to make out of the same lump one vessel for honorable use and another for dishonorable use? What if God, desiring to show his wrath and to make known his power, has endured with much patience vessels of wrath prepared for destruction,in order to make known the riches of his glory for vessels of mercy, which he has prepared beforehand for glory—even us whom he has called, not from the Jews only but also from the Gentiles?
What if God is using all the chaos for a higher purpose? Can we trust Him to do that?
Even the principalities, authorities, rulers, the cosmic forces of evil in the heavenly places we made by Christ and for Christ. In 1 Col 1:15-17
He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him.And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
In 1 Cor 15:24, Then comes the end, when he delivers the kingdom to God the Father after destroying every rule and every authority and power.
Jesus will destroy them when He returns.
In the meantime, To me, though I am the very least of all the saints, this grace was given, to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ, and to bring to light for everyone what is the plan of the mystery hidden for ages in God, who created all things,so that through the church the manifold wisdom of God might now be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly places. This was according to the eternal purpose that he has realized in Christ Jesus our Lord,in whom we have boldness and access with confidence through our faith in him. – Ephesians 3:8-12 We are to demonstrate the manifold wisdom of God to the principalities, not fight against them.
I hope I have conveyed that God has a grand plan for his entire creation. It will include everything we are seeing happen today to bring it about.
Does that mean we sit and wait. Absolutely not. Considering our nation, we pray for our elected and unelected officials so we may live peaceful lives. We intercede for our nation because of our rejection of God and His ways. But our hope is not in anything of this world. We serve God, He sustains us through His love, guides us though His Spirit in us. The Kingdom grows one person at a time. Let us not forget where our hope lies.

When Moses was on Mount Sinai, the children of Israel made the golden calf. God was so angry that he wanted to destroy them and bring a great nation through Moses instead. However, Moses interceded for them and they were spared.
There are a question that troubles me. Why are states that are prolife and pro traditional values such as Mississippi and Missouri suffering major natural disasters?

Thank you SO MUCH for this article. I can’t tell you how much I needed this today. Though the Lord has told us many times not to fear or be anxious, it’s hard not to in such bleak times where it seems sin abounds. I know He has heard our prayers but the waiting seems so long. Perhaps God allowed an illegitimate President in office to expose the depth and breadth of corruption and evil in our nation. While this reality deeply saddens me, the church can still rise up in truth, stand on the wall in vigilance, and pray for justice to prevail. The parallels of what is happening in Israel and the US are stunning. As we pray for the apple of God’s eye, we can simultaneously pray for our “One nation under God” to return to our founding principles, live righteously, and worship the God of our fore fathers.

Beautiful article!
I am currently reading Derek Prince’s book “Shaping History through prayer and fasting” in preparation for the upcoming IFA class.
Here is an excerpt from Chapter 3 of his book:
“The record of the men who have hitherto held office as
president of the United States is a remarkable confirmation that the
source of political power is outside the men who themselves
exercise it. This is well illustrated by a passage from the writings
of President John F. Kennedy:
“This insight into the nature of governing affirms the
lesson of our history that there is no program of
vocational training for the presidency; no specific area of
knowledge that is peculiarly relevant. Nor are qualities of
great leadership drawn from any particular section of the
country or section of society. Nine of our Presidents,
among them some of the most brilliant in office, did not
attend college; whereas Thomas Jefferson was one of the
great scholars of the age and Woodrow Wilson the
president of Princeton University. We have had Presidents
who were lawyers and soldiers and teachers. One was an
engineer and another a journalist. They have been drawn
from the wealthiest and most distinguished families of the
nation, and have come from poor and anonymous
beginnings. Some, seemingly well endowed with great
abilities and fine qualities, were unable to cope with the
demands of the office, while others rose to a greatness far
beyond any expectation.
(1962, Parade Publications, Inc., 733 Third Ave., New York, NY) ”
The street that I grew up on in Southern Illinois was the old path George Rogers Clark took from Fort Cahokia to Fort Vincennes in the Revolutionary War. Abraham Lincoln was one of our heroes since we were about 40 miles southeast of Springfield.
Lincoln was considered to be uneducated. However, he grew up attending a “blab” school where the main textbook was the Holy Bible. He memorized scripture much like the AWANA students still do in Baptist Churches and could still quote it until he was assassinated.
Woodrow Wilson has been accused of being racist because he watched a KKK movie in the White House. (I think they took his name off of some buildings at Princeton University because of that.) However, if it were not for Woodrow Wilson, the Holocaust would have come much earlier as he was able to save thousands of Jewish people by distributing $18 million dollars raised by American Jews to those being exterminated in Europe in the early 1900s.
Every Intercessory in this Nation has an assignment. We all have territorial authority and the Sword of God through our individual walks with the Lord.
Time to use it!
