McLean Bible Church Pastor David Platt recently answered some common questions about prayer and highlighted how God uses the prayers of his children for the good of His people and ultimately, for His glory in the world.

During the Secret Church event held at McLean Bible Church in Washington, D.C., Platt acknowledged that many Christians struggle to pray because they don’t understand how their prayers fit with the purposes of a sovereign God.

“Does prayer change God’s mind? And does prayer change anything, for that matter?” Platt asked. “If God is sovereign, if God’s in control of all things, and all of God’s promises will come to pass, then why pray?”

To answer that question, one must know four things about God, he said: The perfections of God are unchanging; the purposes of God are unchanging; God’s promises are unchanging, and the plans of God are unfolding.

“God has designed prayer to be a powerful means by which we participate in His plans in the world,” he said. “God brings about a remarkable change in the world in response to the prayers of His people. When we pray, God acts. Our prayers affect the way God acts in the world.”

The Radical author pointed to Exodus 8:13, which reads: “God did according to the word of Moses.”

“God did according to the word of man,” he said. “What a testimony to prayer. Prayer is an invitation to join with God in effectively shaping the course of history … through prayer, God has called you and me not to watch history, but to shape history for the glory of His great name. That’ll change the way you pray.”… (Read More Click Here. Excerpts from Leah MarieAnn Klett article in The Christian Post.)

Thank you, excellent! We pray and God does! Not too complicated but it’s our obedience. Have a lesson on the power of taking communion every day! Bill Johnson shares that, and also Anna Mendez Ferrel. To be understood like never before! Blessings to all the intercessors out there.

Ah, Sovereign LORD, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great Power and outstretched Arm. Nothing is too hard for You. [JEREMIAH 32:17] I know that Your Promises in JEREMIAH 33 were for Jerusalem. Complete those Promises again now for Jerusalem and all Your people in Israel. And I pray that You will perform those same miracles here in every city (and rural community) in America — that You will bring health and healing to America, and let us enjoy abundant Peace and security. Cleanse us from all the sin and rebellion we have committed against You. Change us and heal this broken land, so that America will bring You renown, joy, praise, and honor before all nations on earth that hear about all the Good things You do for us, and they will be in awe and will tremble at the abundant prosperity and peace You provide for us!! I give thanks to the LORD Almighty, for the LORD is Good, and Your Love endures forever!! O, LORD, restore the fortunes and peace of this land as they were before.
[JEREMIAH 33:6-9,11]

A wonderful teaching on understanding the purposes of prayer for our people, our churches, our government and nation.

The following is my prayer for our government officials and for our nation in these turbulent and dissenting times.

I hope and pray that you consider faith and prayer a major part of your mission as an elected official. I pray that you seek guidance and wisdom from God’s word and his promises for nations and individuals. I pray that you will seek forgiveness for hardened opinions and ideologies that are not in line with God’s word and working and with the foundations of our Constitutional Republic form of government for our nation,

Make you seek God in earnestness, with humble hearts and minds and may he direct your paths.

May we all seek God’s forgiveness, guidance and wisdom in our attitudes, in our prayers, in our relationships.

Thank you, oh God and Father, for your mighty love, mercy, grace, forgiveness, blessings and working in our circumstances and lives. Thank you for your plans and purpose; let us seek after those.

Just got call from hospital. Friend with aggressive mass spouse asked for prayer but as I started praying he was uncomfortable and interrupted…Father, if the church believes in prayer why the struggle? We decree the enemy of prayer is defeated. Prayer is the bread of life and we speak prayer life into our loved ones…allow it over you and be absorbed and it will become a seed to fight any aggressive mass the enemy throws at us. Help us Lord! Rescue prayer to be spoken, received and to heal ALL our diseases. We decree what the enemy has stolen is coming back with multiplication.
