GOV DESANTIS’ MOMENT OF SILENCE COMES UNDER FIRE
On June 15, 2021, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed HB529, requiring all K-12 public schools in Florida to hold a minute, but not more than two minutes, of silence during the first class of their school day. Before signing the bill, DeSantis said, “It’s important to be able to provide each student the ability every day to reflect and be able to pray as they see fit.”
Representative Randy Fine, who introduced HB 529, intended his bill to give children a time of quiet reflection amid today’s hectic pace. Fine also encouraged parents to guide their children at home on how best to use the time of silence for prayer, meditation, or simply an opportunity to identify and prepare for the upcoming day’s challenges.
Not many would disagree that students face a myriad of challenges in their lives and need some quiet time to reflect on how to handle life’s obstacles. Indeed, a moment of silent reflection couldn’t hurt, but it didn’t take long for the firestorm of opposition to surface.
Democrat Florida State Rep. Omari Hardy quickly tweeted a criticism of the moments of silence. “The Republican who sponsored the bill said it wasn’t about prayer in school. (Of course, it was!)…No, Republicans lie, and we need to call them out every time.“ The American Atheists issued a statement labeling the bill as a backdoor for mandating prayer in the classroom.
The opposition of any reference to God in public schools is not new. Our public school system was founded in the 1830s by Horace Mann, a Unitarian who wanted to separate children from the religious roots of their parents. Mann knew that if taxpayer money were used to fund public education, every citizen would have a voice in school decisions. The opinions of the secular public ruled the day. Gradually laws and curricula removed references to God. The use of money from taxes became the reason for the Supreme Court ruling in 1962 to remove prayer from school. Justice William Douglas stated in his opinion that government-mandated prayer was unconstitutional on the grounds of misappropriation of public funds.
Horace Mann was so successful in his secularization of public education that education historian Samuel Blumenfeld credits Horace Mann as the person most responsible for changing the course of America from its religious roots to socialism, through education.
The critics of Moments of Silence may voice their opposition and look for Social Justice programs to save failing schools, but another program is not what we need. Governor DeSantis spoke the truth when he said, “The idea that you can just push God out of every institution and be successful – I’m sorry, our founding fathers did not believe that.”
It remains to be seen whether Governor DeSantis’ Moments of Silence will be challenged in the courts, but astute and honest men and women perceive the pressures of the world against our youth and realize that in a Moment of Silence, God can speak His plans into their lives and breathe hope into the hopeless. Let us pray that God will do just that.

I thank You Lord for Gov. Ron DeSantis. He is a Governor who truly knows how to run his state. I pray that more governors will be raised up like this courageous man is. Jesus name I pray, amen.
Rep. Hardy is wrong. The bill clearly states ‘moment of silence.’ That moment may be used for prayer, meditation, cramming for the math test, watching YouTube, etc. Freedom. Choice. Something the leftists in public education seek to suppress.
Thank You Governor DeSantis for modeling wisdom and righteous leadership. We Thank The Father as We Agree in Decree in this Seed of Simple Silence to MULTIPLY, MULTIPLY across the nation unto a GREAT HARVEST for Your Kingdom! ~SELAH PRAISE YAH! ( : )
Praise God!
I thank You and praise You for Gov. De Santis, and the vision that you have given to him. He obviously hears the voice of Holy Spirit speaking to him. I pray for more governors to stand up courageously take a stand for what is right. I pray protection over this Moment of Silence, and over Gov. DeSantis. In Jesus’name.
A moment of silence is not prayer, although it can be. I see nothing wrong with this. A moment of silence to reflect on our day is a good thing. The choice as to what to do in that moment is still left up to the individual. Freedom of choice is not acceptable these days if it doesn’t line up with the liberal democrats.
Lord God,
We know that you are omnipresent and that You don’t need mandates from government to make Yourself known to our children, but we thank You for the courage of Gov. DeSantis and ask that You bring others beside him and others throughout the nation and this world who will stand for religious freedom. Lord God, go before us and grant wisdom and discernment to those in positions of authority. Speak TRUTH into their lives, leading them to repentance. Without You, democracy is impossible and our founders understood that truth. Please
Lord, please May Your perfect will done on earth as it is in Heaven! In Jesus Name
Thank You Lord God for giving Governor DeSantis a backbone of steel and a voice like a trumpet to proclaim Your Truth. I pray for You to continue to give him strategies from Your throne in order to implement Your will in the State of Florida. I loose Your Heavenly Host to bring protection to him, his family and his staff. I bind every force of evil sent against them by the evil one.
Lord, creator of the Universe and all that is therein, would you send a mighty wave of Holy Spirit through Florida. Reveal Your glory and give us the reverential fear of God that we may repent, seek Your face and turn from humanism and every other philosophy that opposes Your righteousness. I seek Your heart that no one should perish without opportunity to know the Lord Jesus Christ personally and intimately.
Holy God I give You honor and praise for You alone are Life, Truth, Light and Love. Justice is in Your hands for You are the Supreme Justice of the Universe. Amen
God will bless Gov. Desantis. he is not asking for children to pray but to take a moment of silence. If they want to pray to another God, no one is stopping them. If they want to meditate, they can meditate at this time. Need more Governors like this.
My prayer is twofold:
1. Divine Providence to use the ‘moment of silence’ to provide a shield for all children / young adults from the moral decay and corruption of their rights to innocence and wholesome development, as well as strengthen and clarify their parents’ sense of duty / responsibility for their children welfare
2, Justified conviction of the immense harm/injury by those who oppose the ‘moment of silence,’ and righteous wrath to those who still don’t repent/recant of their error
It is a moment of silence for reflection and prayer if the student is so inclined. Students who come from a religious base may use this moment for prayer, if not it is a quiet beginning to the day. People who oppose this moment are scared that the result of this moment may reinforce religious beliefs and then the CRT and other crazy programs will fail. Lawmakers in Florida, thank you for your convictions. Glory to God!
Hurray for Governor DeSantis.
My only observation is that all these people screaming against it fail to know the U S
CONSTITUTION says absolutely nothing about separation of church and state. Again the church fails to stand up and fight for right to worship, pray or do anything having mention of God. We allow minorities to kick Him out of ever endeavor of mankind and just see what has replaced him!! Vile, evil doctrines and violence. I pray for this governor daily and others like him. Christians and churches need to speak out. Our silence has condoned these abominations too long. I will not be silent.
Thank God for Gov. DeSantis’ Moments of Silence and we pray that nothing would stand in its way from proceeding forward, what a great way of reflecting in God’s way for even just a couple of minutes. It reminds me of when Jesus said to his disciples in the garden of Gethsemane, “could you not pray with for one hour?” Thank you Lord for hearing our prayers and lifting our hearts and faith towards you and Almighty God! Amen and amen!
Dear Heavenly Father, please protect this ruling on Moments of Silence that Governor DeSantis had the courage to sign into law…for the sake of the children. Please work in the hearts of the teachers to show themselves to be a good example to the children in honoring this ruling. And let the children use this time to pray and seek your guidance for the day. Thank you and praise you, and please protect Governor DeSantis and his family from all harm because of his standing up for you Lord. I thank you that he is governing righteously, and pray that he continues to do so.
Dear Lord, thank you for Your help in these days. Please bless mightily Governor DeSantis and the and the Moment of Silence. May this be a great help to the students in Florida. In Jesus’ precious name, Amen.
