Meditation.  The word often brings to mind new age or some other religion, however, meditation and the benefits of it, was first and foremost, God’s plan.

Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night.  He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper.  Ps 1:1-3

The Passion Translation paints us a better picture with verse 3:

He will be standing firm like a flourishing tree planted by God’s design, deeply rooted by the brooks of bliss, bearing fruit in every season of his life.  He is never dry, never fainting, ever blessed, ever prosperous.

Deeply rooted by brooks of bliss.  I love that!

Bearing fruit in every season of life.  Never dry.  Never fainting.  Ever prosperous.

Wow!  Now that sounds like the abundant life Jesus died to give us!  Is this life possible?  Of course, it is!  Not only is it possible, but it has been made available to us through the blood of Jesus Christ.

Simply defined, meditation is, to utter, speak, muse, imagine, ponder or study.

The world and new age view meditation as an emptying of the mind.  Biblical meditation is the opposite, it is a filling of the mind with the word of God.

Meditation is to reflect on the same thing over and over again.  To visualize it and let the meaning of it sink deep down into your heart. It is a spiritual tool that we are encouraged to use on a daily basis.

A simple analogy can be found in a cup of tea. You are the cup of hot water and word of God is the tea bag. Hearing God’s Word is like one dip of the tea bag into the cup. With one dip, some of the tea’s flavor is absorbed by the water. However, the more we dip the tea bag, the more flavor is absorbed into the water.  Continued meditation is like immersing the bag completely and letting it remain deep in the water until all the rich tea flavor has been extracted. The water becomes the tea completely.  You can no longer separate the two.  Isn’t that awesome!

For a tea drinker, the more dips into the water, the more flavor they experience.  For the one who meditates, they thrive best who meditate most.

God made promises to those who think deeply on Scripture, who mediate on His word.  We become one with the word as it sinks deeply into us.  As a result, God prospers our way and we succeed in all we do.

There is, without a doubt, a divine connection between meditating on God’s word and living a successful life.  Here are a few of the benefits.

God’s Way to Success

God told Joshua, “Study this Book of the Law continually. Meditate on it day and night so you may be sure to obey all that is written in it. Only then will you succeed.” (Jos 1:8, NLT)

God’s path to success in life is to know Him.  One way we do that is to read and mediate on His word.

Attitudes of Our Heart

The word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.  (Heb 4:12, NIV).

As we meditate on God’s word, our heart will develop godly thoughts and attitudes.  The Bible will give us clear direction on how to live.  It is the mirror that reveals the true condition of our heart.

The Blessing of Wisdom and Insight

Wisdom and insight are produced when we meditate in the word of God daily.

Ps 119:99 says, I have more insight than all my teachers, for I meditate on your statutes.

Supernatural wisdom comes from meditating on God’s Word. It will strengthen you, guide you and give insight you would not have otherwise.

Fills Your Mind with God

Philippians 4:8 says; Fix your thoughts on what is true and good and right. Think about things that are pure and lovely, and dwell on the fine, good things in others. Think about all you can praise God for and be glad about.

Meditating on God’s word and His goodness leaves no room for negative thinking.  No room for doubt and unbelief.  It builds a stronghold of faith and trust in an unchanging God.

A Mind at Peace

One of my favorite benefits.

Isaiah 26:3 reminds us that God keeps us in perfect peace, as our mind is stayed upon Him.

When we mediate daily on His word, keeping our mind constantly on Him, He will keep us in perfect peace.  Perfect peace, regardless of what is going on around us.

Just today a friend said to me, “Here is your today’s scripture to meditate on.”  She shared the scripture with me, and I mulled it over and over in my mind for the rest of the day.  Meditation is not difficult, its easy and beneficial.

Meditation.  It is not new age.  It is a God-given tool.  It is not an option for the Christian.  God commands us to meditate on His word.  Therein we find success, peace and wisdom.  Therein we find unceasing fruitfulness.  Isn’t that what we all want?

Amen. Thank you for this wonderful article.

Think about the words “perfect peace”.

The definition of perfect: being entirely without fault or defect : flawless: satisfying all requirements :

The definition of peace:state of tranquility or quiet: free from disturbance.

God truly will keep us in perfect peace if we keep our minds upon Him and put our trust in Him.

Isaiah 26:3 Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.

God will also give us direction and guidance in life, even during times of trouble and difficulty, if we will trust in Him with all of our heart.

The Bible tells us to trust in the Lord with all of our heart, and lean not to our own understanding, acknowledge Him, in all our ways and He shall direct our paths. Proverbs 3:5-6

These are wonderful promises of God for Christian’s.

If you are not a Christian, you can accept Christ as your Lord and Savior. Ask Him to forgive you for your sins and to come into your heart and life. Then you can also claim these wonderful promises from God.

Praying that you will accept His wonderful gift of Salvation today.

God bless you.

For God has unveiled them and revealed them to us through the [Holy] Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things [diligently], even [sounding and measuring] the [profound] depths of God [the divine counsels and things far beyond human understanding]. For what person knows the thoughts and motives of a man except the man’s spirit within him? So also no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the [Holy] Spirit who is from God, so that we may know and understand the [wonderful] things freely given to us by God. We also speak of these things, not in words taught or supplied by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, combining and interpreting spiritual thoughts with spiritual words [for those being guided by the Holy Spirit].
1 Corinthians 2:10‭-‬13 AMP
