In hearing from numerous intercessors across the country, there is a common thread among many. There is a sense of oppression and confusion in the air that is almost tangible. Due to the increased misinformation swirling on the internet and the growing division and infighting between political parties and public figures, those sensitive to the spiritual realm can tend to feel overwhelmed by the chaos. I personally experience it as a “swirl” of thoughts and impressions that end up distracting and, at times, immobilizing me in moving forward.

For some, these impressions produce symptoms of depression. For others, it causes disorientation and a lack of focus. For still others, it causes feelings of defeat and hopelessness. It’s not necessarily new. Intercessors have been picking it up for months. The problem is, the enemy wants us to think that what we are feeling is about us; our problems, our faults, and our inabilities.

Yet, I want to remind some of you who might be experiencing this – what you are picking up is probably not about YOU! If you are feeling overwhelmed in the place of prayer or dealing with a lack of clarity and confusion, your spiritual antennas may be picking up the battles that are raging in the spiritual realm. The various principalities and powers that hover over regions, and even this nation, have an impact on us – many times without realizing it.

And you were dead in the trespasses and sins  in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience—  among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. (Ephesians 2:1-3 ESV)

The chaos at regional and national levels is being fueled by these demonic principalities and powers that are seeking attention and hoping to draw us into the darkness with them. Those who are rebelling against God and pursuing things of the flesh can impact atmospheres through their speech and conduct. Even so, if we can recognize the source of these symptoms, we can refuse to entertain the confusion and choose to go higher.

[E]ven when we were dead in our trespasses, [He] made us alive together with Christ…and raised us up with Him and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus. (Eph 2:5-6 ESV)

By faith, we have been invited to sit with Christ in heavenly places before the throne in order to have proper perspective on the battles below. We do not have to yield to the heaviness or oppression that hovers over the land but go higher into His presence. It is here that we can see clearly and through our prayers and praises, shift the atmosphere through our intercession.

Rather than rebuking any principality (something the disciples never did) we can DISPLACE the heaviness by focusing on the Lord and practicing His presence. Our greatest weapon against demonic oppression is being filled with and empowered by the Holy Spirit. We can pray in the Spirit, worship in the Spirit, and declare the high praises of God! We don’t even have to fight the enemy’s schemes; simply do the opposite. Don’t waste time trying to analyze everything. Don’t keep digging for something that may not even be there. Don’t get stuck in that realm where the devil keeps beating you up. Go higher, get in the throne room, and start praising His goodness over your life, your home, your city, and the nation.

This is why we desperately need an invasion of God’s Spirit to CLEAR THE AIR! The fog of deception and darkness is seeking to cover the land and immobilize our witness. But God’s people can rise up in the power of the Spirit and the presence of the Most High! Now is not the time to faint and be weary. Now is the time to let the Spirit rule instead of our flesh or feelings. Where the enemy wants to fuel guilt, condemnation, and shame, God wants to fuel us with His Spirit!

But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.  For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do.  But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. (Gal 5:16-18 ESV)

Let’s sanctify our spiritual antennas and tune in to the frequencies of heaven! I have a sense breakthroughs are just around the corner if we just get on the right channel.
