FOLLOW YOUR HEART?
Hallmark movie-viewing is gearing up to full swing. For good reason; most of us really could use a nice little escape where love and relationships are valued.
But here is a little warning:
Hallmark loves to inject this little phrase and its dialogue right before the movie heads to a climactic finish:
“Follow Your Heart”
Can we all recognize the potential idolatry of that advice?
It may be culturally cool. It may be sentimental and sweet.
But it is NOT Biblical.
Here is what the Bible says:
The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time. (Gen. 6:5)
The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it? “I the Lord search the heart and examine the mind, to reward each person according to their conduct, according to what their deeds deserve.” (Jer. 17:9-10)
For it is from within, out of a person’s heart, that evil thoughts come—sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. All these evils come from inside and defile a person. (Mk. 7:21-23)
As believers, we must recognize the difference. Following our heart can very easily mean following our fickle emotions or even our human reasoning.
We are called to follow the Holy Spirit.
Check out these Scriptures:
“But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.” (Jn. 16:13)
For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. (Rom. 8:14)
So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. (Gal. 5:16)
Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. (Gal. 5:25)
It might seem like a minor adjustment. But it’s not. It can be the difference between living a life of idolatry or living a life of service to our Savior Jesus Christ.

Hallmark as a company is “backslidden”. Over the years they have drifted from “when you care to send the very best” based on Godly responses to a Philosophy that eliminates God and relies on men.
May they see the Light of the world decent on their boardroom one again.
Hallmark is now injecting LGBTQ content into their movies. Beware!
Good article and good reminder of Who it is we should be following. May the Lord open our spiritual ears and eyes to the Spirit’s leading and to obey it!
A good word to guard our hearts. In this season when it can be too easy to want to escape into a “good & clean” movie, let us be watchful & mindful of Truth. Holy Spirit be our guide.
In my opinion, Disney is the worst offender for the “follow your heart” lie.
