I Prayed have prayed
Father, we thank You for Exxon's counter-cultural stance, but we know they could do better. We pray that companies would stop bending the knee to anti-biblical movements and would instead choose to honor Your values.

Exxon has decided not to fly political flags such as the pride flag. We pray that businesses would stick to business and stop promoting anti-biblical causes.

From Bloomberg. Exxon Mobil Corp. plans to prohibit the LGBTQ-rights flag from being flown on the corporate flagpole outside its offices during Pride month in June, prompting a furious backlash from Houston-based employees.

Exxon updated company guidance on what flags can be displayed outside its offices, banning “external position flags” such as PRIDE and Black Lives Matter, according to the policy seen by Bloomberg News. Instead, the rule permits a flag representing an LGBTQ employees’ group that does not prominently feature Exxon’s corporate logo.

In response, members of Exxon’s PRIDE Houston Chapter are refusing to represent the company at the city’s June 25 Pride celebration, according to an employee group email also seen by Bloomberg.

“Corporate leadership took exception to a rainbow flag being flown at our facilities” last year, Exxon’s PRIDE Houston employee group wrote in the email Thursday. “PRIDE was informed the justification was centered on the need for the corporation to maintain ‘neutrality….’”

“The updated flag protocol is intended to clarify the use of the ExxonMobil branded company flag and not intended to diminish our commitment to diversity and support for employee resource groups,” Tracey Gunnlaugsson, vice president of human resources, said in a statement….

While the commonly recognized rainbow flag is prohibited, Exxon supports displaying banners and flags with logos of so-called employee resource groups, or ERGs, especially during signature months, Gunnlaugsson said. “The flags are directly related to our business and company support of our ERGs, including PRIDE for LGBTQ+ employees….”

Still, some Exxon employees believe the company’s leadership should be taking a stronger position on LGBTQ rights….

Exxon has already suffered unprecedented employee attrition in the U.S. over the past year. Globally, the company’s headcount dropped by 9,000 people, or 13%, last year as a result of layoffs, attrition and performance-related departures….

Companies have the right to fly only what they choose…not the demand of the employees…employees are there to work not put demands of their personal wants

Exxon is to be commended for this proper stance within their company. They are in the business of energy, not political causes, viewpoints or reshaping sexual viewpoints. While I still disagree with their allowance of “private logo flag display” for purposes of employee diversity, equality & other “causes”, I understand that Exxon must, like any other company, come to a place where they fight to value a Christian worldview. Obviously they’re not there yet. Perhaps Christians within the company need to stand up and make their voice heard instead of remaining quiet? But refusing to fly the Rainbow flag corporately is most certainly a step in the right direction.

Jesus will take care of us that do His will. I stopped fueling my vehicle when ExxonMobil began shoving liberalism down my throat. An employee at that time was the one that made decision for me. She was extremely forceful and critical with her words. God bless her and those that do not respect Christians. I am a Catholic and it is easy not to be Catholic. God Bless America and the world.

Those posting comments so far apparently haven’t read the actual article! I’m not sure we should be celebrating EXXON’s decision so uncritically. The decision not to display “external position” PRIDE and BLM flags was not based on moral conviction against these groups or issues. The proof that EXXON corporate leadership does not necessarily reject what those flags stand for is that they do allow public stands for “woke” issues, including sexual deviance, what Scripture calls “an abomination.” within their company.

The enemy (satan) lost another fight. Hats off to EXXON! The ultimate aim of the enemy is to get the world to sanction and approve reprobate behavior. We bow our heads and respect what the USA flag represents; satan wants the same acknowledgment and confirmation. However he forget that one day all knees will bow and every voice will confirm that only Jesus is Lord, Master and Savior of this world! Amen.

Sometimes if one takes a stand for what is right, others will join in – but someone has to be courageous enough to take the action first. (post -“the power of one” at http://www.mtothe5th.wordpress.com) But why is there even a flag in the first place? We don’t have flags for other artificially created groups of people. And why is there a parade? Acceptance of individual people is what we are called to as followers of Christ but endorsement, promotion and celebration of behaviors and the people that participate in those behaviors is not what we are to do. They weren’t satisfied with acceptance, they are requiring/forcing others to celebrate, endorse, promote their life choice – with parades, flags, a month dedicated to it – why? this doesn’t happen with any other behavior choice. I treat everyone with kindness and respect and acceptance of them as a person but why must I be required to celebrate and participate in promoting their choices via parades, flags and other events that elevate a particular lifestyle over others. It doesn’t make any sense – we don’t have flags and parades for other “groups”, why must this lifestyle be constantly promoted above others? We should be asking ourselves what is the ultimate agenda? The choice to lead a LGBTQ lifestyle is against Biblical truth, counter to God’s good and perfect design for us as His creation, who He created in His image, it is destructive not only to the individual’s life, but to God’s institution of the family, and ultimately destroys a society, with the building block of the nuclear family gone. If corporations flew flags for every way/group with which individuals identify, the result would be ridiculous. People are free in this country to make their own life choices. Why must I be required to promote/celebrate those choices? This is evil masquerading as normal and good, when it is not. But without Biblical truth against which to measure it, such things will continue until places brave enough, like Exon, take a stand against this very vocal minority. http://www.mtothe5th.wordpress.com

Barbara, I really appreciate your comments. We are to love fellow image bearers but not to participate in the deeds. The reason there are flags, rallies, and parades is to recruit. Secular psychology wants us to think people are born homosexuals, lesbians. etc.. The sin that besets us is simply we give in to our sinful desires. The LGBTQ+ community is just that. They give in to the sinful desires. They know this is a lifestyle of their will and volition and must convince others to join them. We should pray they no longer follow the prince of the air and that our conduct is one worthy of ” providing an answer to those ask of our hope, in all kindness and respect’ 1 Pet 3:15

Good for Exxon’s courageous executives refusing to display the Gay Pride or Black Lives Matter flags!

I hope ALL of corporate America takes note!

Father God, please strengthen corporate America to return to your values and the Biblical foundation of our country that made America strong and prosperous.

“Be strong and courageous.” ~ Deut. 31:6

I agree with ExxonMobil. They need Jesus in their special groups, not flags!

I agree with Exxon’s policy of not displaying the pride flag. It’s a start they can move forward and do more
