A collection of Evangelical leaders, including David Kubal, President/CEO of Intercessors for America, responded to Christianity Today’s article calling for the impeachment and removal of President Trump. The article and subsequent self-promotion of it by Christianity Today insinuated that it represents a majority of Christians, even invoking the name of Billy Graham, who founded the publication. Below is the letter sent to Christianity Today which has a list of evangelical leaders as signatories.
Dr. Dalrymple,
We write collectively to express our dissatisfaction with the editorial Christianity Today published on Thursday, December 19, 2019 calling for the removal of our duly elected President, who was put into office at the behest of over sixty million voters.
It was astonishing to us that your editor-in-chief, Mark Galli, further offensively dismissed our point of view on CNN by saying, “Christianity Today is not read by the people – Christians on the far right, by evangelicals on the far right – so they’re going to be as dismissive of the magazine as President Trump has shown to be.” It also came to our attention, that Mr. Galli has written other statements about Americans who chose Donald Trump over Secretary Clinton in 2016, referring to them as “These other evangelicals [who] often haven’t finished college, and if they have jobs (and apparently most of them don’t), they are blue-collar jobs or entry level work” as he describes himself with pride as an “elite evangelical.”
Of course, it’s up to your publication to decide whether or not your magazine intends to be a voice of evangelicals like those represented by the signatories below, and it is up to us and those Evangelicals like us to decide if we should subscribe to, advertise in and read your publication online and in print, but historically, we have been your readers.
We are, in fact, not “far-right” evangelicals as characterized by the author.
Rather, we are Bible-believing Christians and patriotic Americans who are simply grateful that our President has sought our advice as his administration has advanced policies that protect the unborn, promote religious freedom, reform our criminal justice system, contribute to strong working families through paid family leave, protect the freedom of conscience, prioritize parental rights, and ensure that our foreign policy aligns with our values while making our world safer, including through our support of the State of Israel. We are not theocrats, and we recognize that our imperfect political system is a reflection of the fallen world within which we live, reliant upon the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, which is freely given to sinner and saint alike.
We are proud to be numbered among those in history who, like Jesus, have been pretentiously accused of having too much grace for tax collectors and sinners, and we take deeply our personal responsibility to render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s –our public service.
The editorial you published, without any meaningful and immediate regard for dissenting points of view, not only supported the entirely-partisan, legally-dubious, and politically-motivated impeachment but went even further, calling for Donald Trump not to be elected again in 2020 when he certainly survives impeachment.
As one of our signatories said to the press, “I hope Christianity Today will now tell us who they will support for president among the 2020 Democrat field?”
Your editorial offensively questioned the spiritual integrity and Christian witness of tens-of-millions of believers who take seriously their civic and moral obligations.
It not only targeted our President; it also targeted those of us who support him, and have supported you.

President Trump is the most pro-life president ever. God used Moses, David, Samson and many others to do the things he ordained. President Trump is not perfect, and no one is perfect. I have seen good changes in this man since he took office. God uses people in ways we do not understand, and he is certainly using President Trump today. We have all sinned, and we must not cast the first stone. President Trump speaks up for the people of this country. He defends our right to religion. We need to be in prayer everyday for him, his staff and their families. The left has made up lies about him even before he took office. The left hates God and wants to eradicate Christianity and our freedoms. We are in spiritual warfare in this country. God will continue to use President Donald Trump to fight for us. It’s sad to see Christianity Today come out against our president. Who would Christianity Today support as president? I will certainly support President Trump.
Thank you Intercessors of America for your letter and all the fair-minded righteous leaders who stand in agreement in rebuke of Christianity Today’s biased editorial against our nation and duly president.
Father God, we pray for those who have veered from the path of following Jesus. The love they see for people around has turned into righting social disparity rather than changing the hearts of men and women. Their desire to help has caused them to lose the focus of following Jesus and helping others to recognize their need for heart change rather than simply a change of circumstance. They would fix the situation rather than allow Holy Spirit to touch hearts and bring wholeness to individuals. Father, cause those who are seeking to make life easier for the suffering and struggling rather than letting You “heal the brokenhearted and bind up their wounds.” And they are looking to government to bring social justice rather than allowing Your Spirit to teach people a new way of living by leaving the kingdom of darkness and turning to Jesus and the Kingdom of Light. Please touch those who think Socialist standards are the answer to the pains and suffering in the world. Help them to see and understand that You are the answer to all of life’s struggles. Open their blind eyes and deaf ears.
We know that many “Christians” have tender hearts toward the suffering but help them to look to You rather than looking for earthly solutions for spiritual issues.
Have mercy on those who have turned to man’s ways rather than Your ways. Bring them Home to the Kingdom of Your Dear Son so that they will have Peace, Joy and righteous. We acknowledge that Christian in our nation need an a fresh understanding of Your Grace and Your plans. We also ask you to send an Awakening to those who have no understanding of Your Majesty and omnificense!

Amen, Amen, there is a separation for sure. Scripture says, the sheep from the goats.
Many people say they are “Christians”.
Lord, the day this news came out, Your Holy Spirit grieved for the division it was causing, and the glee with which the enemy of our souls was enjoying this strife. You said to take our complaints not to the unjust judges but to judge among/between ourselves. (I Corinthians 6) This entire incident was an unnecessary attack on Your church, because some within were prone to prideful divisiveness. I join with my brothers and sisters for whole restoration of Your body. Because if we walk in the Light as You are in the Light, we have fellowship one with another. Clearly 1 John gives the formula for restoration. I pray we all memorize Your Words, that this may not happen again.
