Election 2016: What is God Doing?
Election 2016: What is God Doing?
By David Kubal
What is God doing in our nation? Many have described this election season as one that is unique in recent history. Most observers would agree. We have a billionaire business man and a former First Lady (who was also a senator and former Secretary of State running for president. Many Christians are watching all of this play out and trying to answer the question, “What is God saying to us?”
My response to this question is: What is the Church doing? As I read Scripture, the course of nations is most often dependent upon the people and their leaders. Consider “…if my people…I will heal their land” (2 Chr. 7:14); “…if they repent, I will relent…” (Jer. 18:10); “Rend your hearts…return to me…” (Joel 2:13). Even non-believers provide evidence for this. Consider Jonah 3:5, 10: “The Ninevites believed God…when God saw what they did, he had compassion upon them.”
This entire history of this nation is not set in stone. God is desiring us to participate in shaping its history through prayer, fasting, and action. This is not the day for us to passively sit on the sidelines and believe that we can do nothing to influence history. The Scriptures are full of examples just the opposite; we must assume our rightful role, take up our spiritual weapons — including fervent prayer — and stand in the gap between God and man, imploring Him to bring His values to our country.
“Lord, ‘may your kingdom come, and may your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.’”
