RELIGIOUS FREEDOM IS LESS VALUED IN THE U.S.
Three-quarters of faith leaders in the US believe that religious freedom is less valued in the country, according to a recent study.
The Barna Group released its four-year study on religious freedom in America and the results shed light on how the US clergy see their roles in the ever changing society. The Christian polling firm conducted the survey to 1,608 clergy in 2014, 513 Protestant pastors in the U.S. in 2015 and 2016, and 601 Protestant pastors in the U.S. in 2017.
The pressure for leaders and especially faith leaders to satisfy everyone on all sides, and to avoid offense, is very real today, especially in the digital era. —Roxanne Stone, Barna Group’s editor in chief
In the report, Faith Leadership in a Divided Culture, two out of five American adults (43%) said religious freedom in the country is worse compared to ten years ago, while 44% said religious liberty and other types of freedom “will be at risk in the coming decade.”
The study found that the majority of Christian leaders feel uncertain on how they will disciple believers around certain social and political issues in the country.
Nearly three out of 10 pastors (27%) claimed that they are having difficulty in preaching about moral and social issues such as sexuality, abortion and immigration. The respondents claimed that they frequently (11%) or occasionally (39%) feel hampered in their ability to speak out on certain topics because people will take offense.
The US clergy may have reservations about the future of religious freedom in America, but 68% of them believe that “clergy members have a uniquely important role to play when it comes to preserving religious freedom in the US.”
Roxanne Stone, Barna’s editor in chief, said, “The pressure for leaders and especially faith leaders to satisfy everyone on all sides, and to avoid offense, is very real today, especially in the digital era.”
She added that, “As the research reveals, the issues pastors feel most pressured to speak out on are the same ones they feel limited to talk about. In other words, the squeeze comes from all sides: those demanding that the church take a stand and those outraged when it does.” (Used with permission. By Joyce Dimaculangan. blessings to all those who are praying for our country and our President and his administration. May God lead us to the feet of Jesus in this Holy Week; Happy Passover; Happy Resurrection Day.
O Father we pray for those in the pulpit! Lord, draw them to Your word alone. May they desire to preach through Your word, not tackling the social issues out of today’s news cycle, but present Your Word in its entirety. Dear God may they fear You alone as Your word states, not fearing man. Take away their idols of the numbers of the church in bodies and finance and let them focus on the souls that are there. Separate the tares from the wheat by expositionally teaching Your word. Father, we have forgotten the history, not just of the Founding Fathers of this unique nation, but of the history of the Church 200 years before that. May we revisit and for many believers in Christ, visit for the first time the prayers of those generations past and let us take seriously standing in the gap for this sin filled generation. Lord we ask for Your mercy, and we thank You for Your patience and long suffering. Remove the plank from our eye as we deal with our brothers and sisters. Father, the need is great, the workers are few and the battle is ours to lose if we fail to recognize You as our Redeemer. We look to You oh Holy God to change hardened hearts and we ask for Your protection over our land and nation. Father, raise up those willing to stand for You lost they will fall for anything. You are a Holy God, we shall have none other. Have mercy on us Oh Mighty King Jesus, intercede for us and save us from the wrath of God we deserve. Amen
Pray for boldness and take a stand for scriptures. Take a stand regardless of offense. If parishioners love Jesus they will keep
his commandments. If they are unwilling to obey, let them go.
It’s not about money, it’s about the glory of God. Leave the results to God.
There is a remnant in the nations of the earth that will take a stand!
Katie Souza has some excellent teaching on how to take the giants in our lands down and it is all in the word! One series is called Bent and the other is Legion (Mark Ch.5) for the Legion series. One must order both of them and then they will have tools to take these giants down, personally and around us. This is not for the faint of heart but mighty to the pulling down of strongholds. God has weapon’s in His treasuries in heaven to un-lease on the enemy. I’m a student of learning and pray that I will make a big difference in this country of Canada! The double 0 7 in the email address was not my idea but came from a friend. (laugh)
Pastors would be encouraged by reading Jeremiah…” Do not fear their faces…”
