I Prayed have prayed
Lord, please show me a way to dwell in unity with like-minded believers this very week. And when we gather, please command the blessing upon us—life forevermore.
Reading Time: 3 minutes

Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity! It is like the precious oil upon the head, running down on the beard, the beard of Aaron, running down on the edge of his garments. It is like the dew of Hermon, descending upon the mountains of Zion; for there the Lord commanded the blessing — life forevermore (Psalm 133:1–3).

Have you gathered together in unity with like-minded believers recently? If so, did you notice anything special about your time — and about the fruit of your fellowship?

Visit your state page to pray.

I ask because hundreds of IFA readers gathered together recently in our nation’s capital for IFA’s 50th Anniversary Gala. We prayed together, encouraged one another, and grew in the Lord together. But you know what happened?

Relationships.

Relationships happened.

People who have known each other only as names online became suddenly real to one another. Those people stood in front of one another and greeted one another enthusiastically (and they were a hugging bunch, too!). People who have read one another’s comments, who have prayed and agreed together online, and who have been blessed by shared materials and areas of prayer focus suddenly became friends in person.

And the Lord commanded the blessing.

Why? Because He always commands the blessing upon His people when brethren (and sistren!) dwell together in unity. In fact, Psalm 133 tells us that not only is it good and pleasant for us to dwell together in unity, but that in the place of united togetherness the Lord actually bestows LIFE FOREVERMORE.

Yes, the blessing of the Lord brings life. More specifically, the gathering together of the saints to dwell in unity brings the commanded blessing of God down on our heads — and His commanded blessing produces life forevermore.

We saw that at the recent IFA 50th Anniversary Gala. However, more importantly, you can see that today; yourself; no matter where you are.

I challenge you today, friend: Have you gathered together with fellow believers in unity lately?

And if not, why not?

I know people are busy. I know many people suffer from church wounds. But despite the obstacles in our lives and schedules, we need one another.

Proverbs 18:1 says: A man who isolates himself seeks his own desire; he rages against all wise judgment. Beloved, that verse applies to all of us. It is not good for man or woman to be alone. God created us to dwell in community. And regardless of what’s going on in our lives and hearts, we need one another.

And, although I do believe in church attendance, the community you find doesn’t even have to be “in church.” It could involve something as simple as your meeting with a friend or two at your favorite restaurant, baring your hearts to one another, encouraging one another in the Lord, and praying together at the end.

Friend, whatever your gathering together in unity looks like, we all need LIFE — and life more abundantly. If community is missing from your life, won’t you contact some friends today? Schedule some “together time.” If you have no friends, find someone else who also doesn’t have any friends — and be their friend. When you gather together in unity, the Lord will command the blessing: LIFE forevermore.

What could you do to gather with some saints in unity this very week?

It is vital; UnFortunately this last year was rife with Christians getting on social media and slandering one another. Not only is that a show of this unity in front of each other but in front of the entire world. So sad
