First Lady Suzanne Youngkin presented the third Spirit of Virginia aware to horse rescue nonprofit Hope’s Legacy on Thursday.

“Horses have a special place in my heart, and the work that animal rescues, like Hope’s Legacy, provide to God’s creatures surely inspires. It has been an honor meeting Maya and witnessing her care of these beautiful animals and interacting with these beautiful animals. Your selfless work exemplifies the true Spirit of Virginia,” Youngkin said in an announcement.

Youngkin has previously presented the award to the National Center for Healthy Veterans and Jill’s House. Youngkin is expected to present three more Spirit of Virginia awards this year.

The Spirit of Virginia Award recognizes unique qualities and standout achievements across the Commonwealth and salutes Virginians for their uncommon contributions in private industries, education, culture, the arts and philanthropy,” the First Lady’s release states.

Hope’s Legacy Founder and Executive Director Maya Proulx said, “On behalf of the volunteers, donors and foster families who have supported this organization, I want to express my gratitude for this recognition. Hope’s Legacy is dedicated to changing the lives of equines coming from difficult situations, and we know that our work will continue for many years to come.”

“You couldn’t help but pull in today and feel the spirit of Virginia, see the spirit of Virginia, and yes, smell the spirit of Virginia,” Governor Glenn Youngkin quipped in remarks at the ceremony.

The Youngkins highlighted the work of volunteers at Hope’s Legacy and the important role of equines economically, recreationally, and therapeutically in Virginia….(Excerpt from The Virginia Star)
