Former President Donald Trump opted to endorse Wisconsin gubernatorial candidate Tim Michels in the GOP primary.

The businessman has surged in the polls since entering the race later than other opponents.

“Tim Michels is a very successful businessman running for Governor of the Great State of Wisconsin,” Trump said in a statement. “During my Administration, Tim served on my infrastructure task force, and helped us plan and start building the Keystone XL Pipeline before Joe Biden launched his assault on American Energy production.”

At the same time, he took a shot at incumbent Governor Tony Evers for his record on policies in the state. Republicans have slammed Evers for an extended crime spike that has remained in the state.

As President Biden polls underwater, his standing may hurt Democrats like Evers seeking re-election.

“The current Governor, Tony Evers, has been an abject failure for the people of Wisconsin, from his abysmal handling of the China Virus, where his lockdowns were unprecedented, to rampant crime across the State,” he continued.

Trump opted to select Michels over former Lieutenant Governor Rebecca Kleefisch, businessman Kevin Nicholson, and State Representative Timothy Ramthun (R-Campbellsport)…. (Excerpt from The Wisconsin Daily Star)
