California Democrat leader Toni Atkins introduced a bill Thursday to allow more nurse practitioners to abort unborn babies in the first trimester.

Abandoning the long-held idea that abortions should be between a woman and her doctor, Atkins said Senate Bill 1375 is part of a larger effort to expand abortions in California in anticipation that the U.S. Supreme Court may overturn Roe v. WadeThe Epoch Times reports.

California already allows nurse practitioners and midwives to abort unborn babies in the first trimester with the supervision of a doctor. Atkins’ bill would eliminate the doctor’s supervision requirement for nurse practitioners with at least three years experience.
