Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp is banning cities and counties from mandating that masks be worn in public to limit the spread of COVID-19.

Kemp’s executive order is a revised extension of guidelines put in place during the start of the pandemic, which encouraged, rather than required, residents to wear masks in public. The governor has called implementing such a measure “a bridge too far.”

The executive order reads in part: “State, county, or municipal law, order, ordinance, rule, or regulation that requires persons to wear face coverings, masks, face shields, or any other Personal Protective Equipment while in places of public accommodation or on public property are suspended to the extent that they are more restrictive than this Executive Order.”

His orders had banned local governments from taking more restrictive steps than the state, but the new set of rules specify that cities and counties can’t require the use face coverings, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

“Previous executive orders – and now this order – state no local action can be more or less restrictive than ours,” said Candice Broce, Communications Director, and Chief Deputy Executive Counsel for the governor. “We have explained that local mask mandates are unenforceable. The Governor continues to strongly encourage Georgians to wear masks in public.”

Savannah Mayor Van Johnson was the first local official to defy Kemp and order masks. Cities like Atlanta, Athens, and Augusta soon followed suit. The mayor had said police would start writing $500 citations to businesses that didn’t enforce the law.

So this Savannah Mayor, after Gov. Kemp said “ no masks may be mandated in pubic” has defied and disobeyed the Governor? Lord, I pray that the Governor of the state will be respected in word and action. And Lord I pray we all do what is right to stop the spread. We pray for therapies to kill this virus and for you to bringing healing to our land.

An executive order is not a law, unless the process for passing laws has changed in this country. If it has changed when did it happen and by whose authority was it done?

Father God, please allow the people of Georgia to support their Governor who is supporting individual freedom whether or not to wear mask. Please mobilize the church to take their stands to support their Governor.

Please convict Mayor Van Johnson and the rest of the mayors who opposed to submit to their Governor.

Father God, please breath the spirit of unity among the people of GA. We pray and thank you in Jesus’ name. Amen.

There are many people who cannot wear masks because of health reasons. Wearing masks causes severe physical reactions to the point of needing hospitalization (which is a health concern itself). Forcing people to wear masks means they will have to continue to ask their overly-stressed relatives to grocery shop for them and they will have to cancel medical appointments and procedures. What we have witnessed in this country through masks has NOTHING to do with health. If wearing a mask was for our health, then why were the protestors allowed to stand in close proximity without masks? Some protestors were packed in so tightly that they were literally touching, yet they were not fined. Allowing mass groups of people to stand shoulder to shoulder without wearing masks proves that forcing law abiding citizens to wear masks has NOTHING to do with our health. Thank you, Governor Kemp for not allowing this type hypocrisy to continue.

Thank God for Governor Kemp. Now I can only hope that Governor Holcomb will do the same here in Indiana.

Father GOD, only You know what is right in this situation! Yet, please give wisdom to all government leaders to follow You. There are many who are harmed by the side-effects of the masks, so there must be a better way to safeguard public health and keep us working. Help us all, Lord, to find that way without fighting each other. Only Satan is pleased by this mess! Intercede, Lord, and bring peace. In Your Name, Amen.
