I Prayed have prayed
Lord, we pray for Republicans this midterm election, that they would stay in office and continue to promote and preserve Biblical principles and Christianity across our nation. We ask that You would strengthen our leaders, give them courage, patience, hope, and faith in the days ahead. May this election cycle help bring Americans back to You. Amen.

House Republican leaders have distributed a memo to GOP lawmakers and candidates outlining their four-week messaging strategy heading into the November midterm elections. The plan, obtained by Fox News Digital, centers on four issues: the border, fraudulent use of taxpayer dollars, the economy, and public safety. The memo arrives as Republicans face an uphill fight to retain control of the House during the latter half of President Donald Trump’s final term, with recent polling showing Democrats holding a structural advantage in the race to 218 seats.

The GOP’s challenge is numerical and political. A Fox News poll found Democrats projected to win 215 seats compared to 201 for Republicans, meaning the left needs only three victories out of 19 toss-up races to claim a majority, while Republicans would need to win at least 17 of those contests. Trump’s approval rating stands underwater at 61% disapproval in the most recent Fox News survey, though his favorability with Republican voters remains high at 79%, giving the party hope that strong base turnout on Nov. 3 could still deliver a Republican House.

From Fox News:

“I think these are the points that the voters actually care most about,” House GOP Chairwoman Lisa McClain, R-Mich., who leads Republicans’ messaging strategy, told Fox News Digital. “[Democrats] want open borders. They want to defund the police, they want to take more money out of your pocket and give it to somebody else. They believe in bigger government. We believe in people… So those are the things that we’re really hammering home during this election.”

On the economy, which is a focus of week two in the GOP memo, Republican incumbents and candidates are encouraged to talk about “putting more money back in Americans’ pockets and creating more opportunities to get ahead through hard work, ownership, and economic freedom.”

The memo encouraged Republicans to discuss “protecting America by stopping illegal immigration, enforcing our laws, and knowing who is entering the country.”

The economy has become a central issue in the 2026 cycle, with high grocery and gas prices fueling voter frustration. Democrats have seized on that discontent, pointing to Trump’s tariffs on allies like Canada and the June war with Iran as contributors to economic strain. McClain acknowledged Americans’ cost-of-living concerns but urged Republicans to contrast their policies with what she described as Democrats’ high-tax agenda. She referenced the low poverty rate and Trump’s new trade deals as positives the party could highlight, while warning voters not to return to what she called the “9% inflation, open borders, and higher taxes” of the Biden years. She also echoed Trump’s assurances that gas prices would fall once the Iran conflict ended, adding, “We also don’t want the number one state sponsor of terror to have a nuclear weapon, and we have to protect Americans from that.”

The border remains one of the GOP’s strongest issues, having proved decisive in Trump’s 2024 victory. McClain pointed to far-left Democratic policies like abolishing police and mainstream Democratic support for sanctuary jurisdictions as contrast points, while insisting Republicans remained supportive of legal immigration. Republicans are also highlighting what they describe as a far-left insurgency within the Democratic Party during the primary cycle, warning that socialists are pulling the party further left than most Americans. McClain framed the choice starkly: “What we’re not going to do is gaslight the American people, right? That’s what the Democrats did, and it didn’t work well for them. But you have to take a look at the alternative. The alternative is absolutely terrifying.”

Let’s pray for candidates on both sides of the ballot who profess faith in Christ, that they would lead with integrity, speak truth even when it costs them politically, and govern with wisdom rather than partisanship. Let’s pray for voters making decisions in these final weeks, that they would seek God’s guidance and vote according to biblical principles rather than party loyalty or fear. Let’s pray for the House of Representatives itself, that whoever holds the majority come January would use their authority to pursue justice, protect the vulnerable, and honor God in the laws they write. And let’s pray for a nation deeply divided, remembering Proverbs 29:2: when the righteous increase, the people rejoice, but when the wicked rule, the people groan.
