Finding Freedom from Rejection—Day 4
The following is an excerpt from our devotional series Finding Freedom from Rejection.
AMAZING GRACE
But even before I was born, God chose me and called me by His marvelous grace. Then it pleased him. (Gal 1:15)
Let’s go through this beautiful verse piece by piece.

Before you were born you were chosen
The word chosen means you were handpicked by God. You were called (which means you have a unique calling). You were brought forth from darkness to light, as it says in 1 Peter 2:9.
The word chosen is the opposite of rejected. You are accepted by God into His family.
By His marvelous grace
We all know that grace is undeserved. No amount of good works can earn God’s love. If we are trying to earn it, we are striving from religion and not relationship. It is by His grace that we have been called and chosen.
It pleased Him
There’s that word again, pleased. Just as Father God was pleased in His Beloved Son Jesus, this verse says that after choosing us by grace, it pleased Him. God is pleased with you.
Maybe you’ve never received affirmation from loved ones, and it’s left you empty. You’ve sought to fill that void wherever you could, but it still leaves you unfulfilled. That’s because you were created for more. It’s a God-shaped void because He is the only one who can satisfy that longing.
You and I can never earn God’s love. We can try but it will be fruitless. The verse mentioned says He chose you and called you by His grace. God picking you and calling you had nothing to do with you. It was all Him. He freely loves us and invites us to meet Him at the Throne of Grace where we can find everything we need in Him.
Do you need more grace? Pray with me:
Father, thank you for choosing me and calling me before I was born. Thank you for Your marvelous grace. I know I don’t deserve it, but I am so thankful You freely give it. You said that Your grace is enough for me. I ask for more grace when I am feeling weak. I come before the Throne of Grace, and all I want is You. You satisfy my deepest desires with Your presence. I want to know You more.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
