Most people assume the radical reshaping of human nature is still a distant, science-fiction scenario. It is not. The ideology driving some of the most powerful figures in Silicon Valley is already producing real-world experiments that challenge the most basic convictions Christians hold about human dignity, the sanctity of life, and the sovereignty of God over creation. One of those experiments made headlines this week, and it deserves serious attention.

Bryan Johnson, the Silicon Valley tycoon who believes he can reverse the aging process through technology — and is experimenting on himself, in a very public way, to prove it — announced this week that he has cloned himself for the purpose of growing replacement organs and harvesting blood.

“I just cloned myself… as a newborn,” Johnson wrote on X. “This baby-bryan lives in a petri dish for now. This may be scary to some people … a dystopian future. But, for others, they will see it as the inevitable future of health.”

While Johnson might not have a full-grown body double he’s keeping in a lab somewhere, what he’s done looks forward to a future where that might be possible — indeed, is likely inevitable (note that he says his clone is in a petri dish “for now”). Johnson had his blood drawn, cells extracted, and then reprogrammed as stem cells. With these cells, he can in theory grow spare body parts, organs for transplantation, inject “young cells,” and, as Johnson puts it, “become my own blood boy.”

Johnson is not an isolated eccentric. He is a prominent figure in the transhumanist movement, a growing ideology among tech elites that seeks to use technology to overcome human limitations — including death itself. He often appears in public wearing a “don’t die” T-shirt and has handed over nearly every personal decision to specially designed artificial intelligence systems that dictate what he eats, when he sleeps, and how he lives. Earlier in his experiment, he injected himself with the blood plasma of his 18-year-old son in hopes of reversing his own aging. He abandoned that practice only after it failed to produce results. TIME Magazine profiled him favorably several years ago, and he has since become one of the most visible faces of a movement that openly treats AI as a kind of deity — a source of power and prolonged life in exchange for total submission.

The broader transhumanist agenda does not stop with one man’s self-experimentation. The same technological trajectory that produces Johnson’s cloning project also drives the development of artificial wombs, human-animal chimeras, and lab-grown clones intended for organ harvesting. These are not hypothetical future scenarios. They are emerging realities, and they are being normalized under the language of health care and scientific progress — the same framing used to mainstream abortion, IVF, and euthanasia.

Genesis 1:27 declares that human beings are made in the image of God, and Psalm 139:13-14 affirms that God himself knits each person together in the womb. The transhumanist project is, at its core, a rejection of those truths — a declaration that human beings can and should remake themselves in their own image, using whatever means technology makes available, including the creation and destruction of human life for spare parts. Christians must be clear-eyed about what is happening and resist the temptation to treat these developments as merely interesting or inevitable. They are a direct assault on the dignity of every human being and a form of idolatry that Scripture has always condemned.
