As concerns about border security, cartel activity, and immigration enforcement continue to shape national conversations, Intercessors for America welcomed Goliad County, Texas, Sheriff Roy Boyd to Pray with America’s Leaders for a candid discussion about the progress made under the Trump administration and the challenges that remain.

Boyd, a seventh-generation Texan and longtime law enforcement officer, has become a respected voice on border security issues. Although he serves a small county of just over 7,000 residents, his firsthand experience dealing with cartel activity and illegal immigration has led to opportunities to advise state and federal leaders on border enforcement strategies.

During the webcast, Boyd praised efforts undertaken by the Trump administration to strengthen border security. He noted that border crossings have been dramatically reduced compared to previous years and credited leadership changes within federal agencies for helping restore enforcement priorities.

At the same time, Boyd cautioned that securing the border is only one part of a much larger challenge. He argued that millions of individuals who entered the country illegally during previous years remain within the United States, creating long-term law enforcement and national security concerns.

Throughout the conversation, Boyd emphasized that the influence of Mexican drug cartels has expanded significantly over the past two decades. According to Boyd, cartel operations extend far beyond drug trafficking, impacting communities throughout the nation through human smuggling, organized crime, and exploitation of vulnerable populations.

The sheriff also discussed what he sees as a broader ideological battle facing America. He argued that communist movements, criminal organizations, and other anti-American influences often share a common goal of weakening the nation’s Christian foundations and destabilizing its institutions. While some of his historical and political assessments reflected his personal perspective, Boyd repeatedly returned to the importance of understanding America’s biblical roots and preserving the freedoms established by the nation’s founders.

A major theme of the discussion was the challenge of implementing meaningful reforms within large government systems. Boyd described what he believes are significant obstacles within federal bureaucracies, where career employees and competing interests can slow or resist the implementation of policy changes. He also warned that some officials become more focused on preserving influence and position than fulfilling the mandates given to them by voters.

Despite these frustrations, Boyd stressed the importance of remaining faithful to one’s calling rather than becoming discouraged by political realities. Drawing on lessons from his own career, he encouraged public servants to focus on doing what is right within their sphere of responsibility and to leave the results to God.

The conversation frequently returned to prayer and spiritual discernment. Boyd urged intercessors to pray that elected officials would have wisdom to follow God’s direction rather than personal ambition or political pressure. He specifically encouraged prayer for President Trump and other national leaders, asking that they would have discernment to recognize those who are faithfully carrying out their responsibilities and those who may be working against the goals they were elected to accomplish.

Host Kris Kubal highlighted the importance of praying not only for national leaders but also for local law enforcement officers, judges, prosecutors, and public officials who face difficult decisions every day. Together, he and Boyd emphasized that lasting change will require both effective leadership and a renewed commitment to biblical principles.

As the webcast concluded, Boyd reminded viewers that America’s founding ideals cannot be separated from its spiritual heritage. Referencing Benjamin Franklin’s call for prayer during the Constitutional Convention, he urged Christians to remain engaged, informed, and prayerful as the nation navigates the challenges ahead.

The discussion served as both a policy briefing and a call to intercession, encouraging believers to pray for wisdom, courage, and faithfulness among leaders at every level of government.
