Jordan Crafting Legislation to Crack Down on Sanctuary Cities
Ever since the Trump administration took office, sanctuary policies in states, cities, and communities have frustrated federal immigration enforcement and made our nation less safe. Now, however, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan is working on legislation to crack down on these dangerous sanctuary policies.

From Just the News:
House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, this week suggested that the panel he leads would hold a markup of a bill to crack down on sanctuary cities in the coming weeks, as major metropolitan areas continue to clash with the Trump administration over immigration enforcement.
“Sanctuary” jurisdictions refer to states, cities, and municipalities that have declared that they will not cooperate with federal immigration law enforcement and/or to instead place restrictions on the Feds’ ability to conduct those enforcement actions in public spaces.
Jordan stated that such jurisdictions include 11 states, 18 major cities, three counties, and the District of Columbia, collectively representing one-third of the population.
Speaking on the Just the News, No Noise television show, Chairman Jordan announced his intention to “have a markup in two weeks in our committee to address this.” Just the News notes that the lawmaker has not suggested a mechanism to push jurisdictions that refuse to comply. Rather, all the Chairman has suggested thus far is legislation that would require local authorities to work with federal law enforcement when dealing with alien criminals.
This proposed legislation comes at a time when immigration enforcement tensions in America are at an all-time high. President Trump has battled with the leaders of sanctuary jurisdictions since his second inauguration. Most recently, the Trump administration fought with Minnesota, leading to a surge of federal law enforcement officers to the northern state. As Just the News notes, however, this surge recently came to an end as Border Czar Tom Homan secured agreements with local jurisdictions to work with federal law enforcement.
We at IFA have prayed for years now for an end to these harmful sanctuary policies. Let’s pray for wisdom for Chairman Jordan and all other lawmakers involved as they draft this legislation!
