Trump Admin Removes Biden-Era DEI from the Housing Appraisal Industry
Under the Biden administration, the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) forced racial preferencing into property appraisals, injecting DEI into America’s housing industry. Now, the Trump administration is taking action to correct this discrimination.

Under former President Joe Biden, HUD used disparate impact theory — the idea that a neutral policy has a disproportionately negative effect on underrepresented minorities — to impose race-based policies on the Appraisal Foundation, a nonprofit entity authorized by Congress to set qualifications for property appraisers.
“Property appraisals are an integral component of helping Americans realize the dream of homeownership,” HUD Secretary Scott Turner said in a statement. “But the Biden Administration weaponized the Fair Housing Act to inject DEI into the appraisal industry, focusing on illegal race preferences rather than ensuring every American has equal access to quality, affordable housing.
“Today, HUD is ending the politicalization of property appraisals to restore fairness and equality to civil rights enforcement and housing.”
Under Biden, HUD applied “disparate impact theory” on the Appraisal Foundation (TAF), a nonprofit authorized by Congress to set qualifications for property appraisers. This theory asserts that neutral policies have negative impacts on “underrepresented minorities, meaning that policies should be crafted to favor these groups over others.
According to Craig Trainor, Assistant Secretary of the Office of Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity (FHEO), Biden’s FHEO found there to be a disproportionate amount of white people in the appraisal industry. Instead of viewing this as a coincidence, the FHEO viewed this as a “problem to which it would provide a coercive government solution.” It also suggested that the apprenticeship model historically used to train appraisers “perpetuates racial homogeneity in the appraisal profession.”
The Biden administration, however, never shared findings proving racial discrimination in the industry. The Trump administration also confirmed there was never any evidence of racial discrimination, which is why it canceled the “conciliation agreement” that saw TAF funding DEI initiatives.
This is yet another way in which the Biden administration disrupted our federal government by needlessly inserting divisive DEI ideology. Let’s thank God for the reversal of this, and let’s pray that all DEI inserted into our government would be rooted out!
