On Wednesday evening, Vice President JD Vance cast a tie-breaking vote in the Senate to sink a War Powers Resolution that would have prevented the Trump administration from authorizing further U.S. military action in Venezuela.

From the Daily Wire:

Vance presided over the Senate as the vote was tallied to 50 yeas and 50 nays — with Republican Senators Rand Paul (KY), Lisa Murkowski (AK) and Susan Collins (ME) voting with Democrats. After announcing that the vote was tied, Vance briefly conferred with someone at the desk before announcing his vote.

“On this vote, the yeas are 50, the nays are 50. The Senate being equally divided, the Vice President votes —” Vance quickly covered the microphone as he looked over the legislation on the desk in front of him

“Affirmative. And the point of order is sustained,” he said, chuckling, after the brief pause. “I had to make sure.”

By sustaining this point of order, the Senate, with the help of Vice President Vance, prevented the passage of S.J. Res. 98, a resolution that would have “direct[ed] the President to terminate the use of U.S. Armed Forces for hostilities within or against Venezuela unless a declaration of war or authorization to use military force for such purpose has been enacted.”

In addition to Senators Paul, Murkowski, and Collins, two other Republican senators initially planned to vote alongside the Democrats. However, both were convinced by the Trump administration to change their minds. Senator Josh Hawley was reassured by the White House that it would not put troops on the ground in Venezuela without congressional approval. Secretary of State Marco Rubio shared a similar message with Senator Todd Young. In the end, both senators voted with their Republican colleagues, creating the tie that the Vice President broke.

It is encouraging to know that Republicans in the Senate are standing by President Trump, and that the President has promised to go through the proper channels if he wishes to continue operations in Venezuela. Let’s thank God for this, and let’s ask Him to continue to guide our leaders in the Trump administration!

FATHER GOD I thank YOU for giving President Trump YOUR Strength daily, both mentally and physically. Thank YOU for ordering his steps daily and directing his path. Thank YOU for protecting him and his family and his administration daily. As the mid-terms are coming up, I ask that YOU continue to expose those men and women who claim to be conservative and GODLY yet continue to stand with the ungodly democrats in Congress. YOUR WORD says that we are to mark them that cause divisions among us. These Senators and Reps that claimed to be conservative and serve not only America but YOU, yet consistently stands with evil democrats; let us mark them especially when they are running for re-election and soundly vote them out of office and replace them with True Conservatives and true GODLY men and women in JESUS NAME. Amen.
