Lord, protect our service members abroad, and bring stability to Haiti through Your power and mercy.

Violence continues to surge in Haiti, where gangs now dominate much of Port-au-Prince and terrorize civilians with kidnappings, assaults, and widespread destruction.

Let the IFA community know how to pray for you.

In the midst of this instability, U.S. Marines stationed at the American embassy faced direct danger when suspected gang members opened fire on them. The Marines responded with disciplined return fire, ensuring the safety of embassy personnel. Remarkably, no service members were harmed.

This incident underscores both the severity of Haiti’s internal crisis and the unwavering commitment of those tasked with protecting American citizens abroad. The Caribbean nation has been spiraling since the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse in 2021, leaving a leadership vacuum that gangs have exploited.

With as much as 90% of the capital reportedly under gang influence, everyday life for Haitians has become perilous. Basic infrastructure is threatened, roads are blocked, and humanitarian access is severely hindered.

Efforts to restore order are in motion. A multinational mission of more than 5,500 personnel—authorized by the U.N. Security Council—is expected to support Haitian authorities in neutralizing gang control and stabilizing essential systems. Yet questions remain about which nations will provide manpower and how quickly relief can be effectively implemented.

The United States continues to advise citizens not to travel to Haiti, maintaining a Level 4 travel warning. Nonessential U.S. government personnel and their families were ordered to leave months ago as conditions deteriorated further.
