News that the U.S. Coast Guard detected and monitored a Russian intelligence-gathering vessel just 15 nautical miles south of Oahu is a sobering reminder that America’s adversaries remain active and watchful near our own shores.

On October 29, Coast Guard aircraft and the Cutter William Hart responded professionally to the presence of the Kareliya, a Vishnya-class spy ship designed specifically for advanced signals intelligence. Though operating outside the 12-nautical-mile territorial sea—meaning its presence was technically lawful under international norms—the vessel’s proximity underscores the ongoing geopolitical pressures facing the United States.
These ships, originally built for the Soviet Navy and still operated by the Russian Federation, are equipped with sophisticated sensors capable of collecting and transmitting sensitive data. They also carry close-in weapon systems and surface-to-air missiles for self-defense. While the Coast Guard emphasized that their response was routine and conducted in accordance with international law, the situation highlights the broader contest unfolding across the Pacific. America’s Indo-Pacific region is increasingly a center of strategic competition, and foreign militaries—Russia’s included—regularly test our vigilance, readiness, and resolve.
Captain Matthew Chong of the Coast Guard Oceania District reaffirmed the service’s mission: protecting U.S. waters, defending sovereign interests, and coordinating closely with Indo-Pacific Command and interagency partners. His statement reflects a fundamental truth: the responsibility to safeguard our nation’s borders does not belong to one branch, one administration, or one region—it is a continuous, united effort.
These moments should deepen our gratitude for the men and women safeguarding our seas—and strengthen our resolve to pray for national protection, wise leadership, and God’s sovereign hand over America’s future.

Bless, strengthen and protect all of our Armed Forces all around the world but especially near Hawaii, the Gulf of America and all boarders! We plead the blood of Jesus around President Trump. Sec. Hegseth, SOS Marco Rubio. VP Vance, all his Administrative Staff, All Cabinet members and their families. Help all of them further the advancement of his plans to protect, defend the American citizens against all enemies, foreign and domestic. Root out all obstructionists against our Constitutional Republic and deport all who do not share our ideals to live a quiet and peaceable life.

This is nothing new to me. We had Russian trawlers tailing us throughout the six day war in the Med. We were in contact with CNO and the frigate came after us at midnight. Our Tomcats scared them off but it was scary to say the least. Russia vs United States Navy since I was in intelligence in 1966. Sea power, it works since the Q ships against subs a few years ago (WWI and 2.) Pray for history of these wars to end and with strength. We only lost a lot of men on our sister ship the Sylvania off the coast of Israel. They hate the Lord God. Pray for His miracles of peace and Prescence to the world
I agree with the comments put forth and God’s supernatural protection over America. (I do wonder if we are also spying on Russia, China, etc.)

Please continue to rout any who are not capable, loyal, and competent – so that their preparedness is always top notch. Stir vigilance in those entrusted with our nation’s security. Above all may we as a nation recognize that our military can never be our primary and surest line of defense – You alone serve that capacity. May we be a nation that You can bless, and protect – instead of a target of Your righteous judgement.
I pray for safety, protection, great leadership and wisdom for all of our military personnel around the world. It is clear that Russia is still spying on us and would harm us if they thought they could get away with it. Please Lord, do not let that happen.
