For decades now, our nation has been sharply divided on the issue of abortion. Recent polling suggests, however, that both pro-life and pro-choice Americans may be able to find common ground in opposing Biden-era policies on abortion pills.

Seven in 10 likely voters approve of reinstating safeguards around the drugs by requiring a doctor visit for abortion drug prescriptions. Even more revealing, the majority of voters who were surveyed for the poll identify as “pro-choice,” representing a possible shift in how voters view the repercussions of the drugs for women’s health and safety.

Another 70% of respondents support doctors screening for and reporting possible abuse and coercion before prescribing the drugs, a policy that could have prevented the tragedy Catherine Herring experienced firsthand when her husband purchased lethal abortion drugs online and tried to end her pregnancy by lacing her drinks.

Catherine’s abuser was enabled by the Biden Administration’s removal of abortion drug safeguards, which eliminated in-person dispensing requirements for abortion pills under the Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) program. As a result, it’s easier than ever for would-be abusers and coercers to obtain the pills via mail. The FDA’s recent approval of a new generic version of the abortion drug mifepristone only compounds these risks for women by making the drugs even easier to access.

Pro-life and pro-choice Americans have always seemed to be diametrically opposed, but this new polling seems to suggest the two sides may be able to find common ground. Although Americans may not yet all agree on abortion, perhaps enough can agree on the abortion pill to generate serious political momentum.

Pro-life groups and officials, meanwhile, have been laser focused on opposing the abortion pill, a dangerous medication that has dramatically increased access to abortion. The Daily Wire notes that, following the FDA’s approval of a generic version of the abortion pill earlier this year, 51 United States Senators sent a letter to Trump administration officials urging them to reconsider.

Even under a Republican administration, the abortion industry and pill continue to threaten women. Let’s thank God for this bipartisan support and pray for an end to the abortion pill!
