In Colorado Springs, a courageous high school senior has reminded the nation that faith still has a place in public life.

Sophia Shumaker, a student at Rampart High School, faced disappointment earlier this year when school officials denied her request to decorate her paid senior parking space with a Christian-themed design inspired by Jesus’ parable of the lost sheep and the Bible verse 1 Corinthians 13:4. The school cited a district policy banning religious imagery, even though other students had been allowed to include similar personal symbols in their artwork.

For Sophia, the issue wasn’t just about a parking space — it was about the freedom to express her identity as a follower of Christ. “Christianity is my whole identity,” she said. “I just really wanted to express that.”

Her quiet act of conviction soon became a powerful stand for faith in public schools. Inspired by the late Charlie Kirk’s advocacy for truth and courage, Sophia sought help from First Liberty Institute, a Christian legal organization that defends religious freedom. The group sent a demand letter to Academy School District 20, arguing that Sophia’s right to express her beliefs is protected under the First Amendment.

After reviewing the case, the district reversed its decision. Officials agreed to change their policy and allow Sophia to repaint her parking space with her original Christian design. The district also confirmed that moving forward, students will be free to include religious expressions in their artwork — as long as they comply with general decorum guidelines.

Keisha Russell, senior counsel at First Liberty, celebrated the victory: “The First Amendment protects students’ private expressions of faith in public schools. We’re encouraged the district will now allow students like Sophia to share their faith openly.”

Sophia’s courage stands as an example for young believers everywhere. In a time when Christian expression is often challenged, her perseverance shows that respectful firmness can bear fruit. As Russell put it, “It really shows other young people how important it is to stick up for what you believe in.”

This moment in Colorado reminds us that the light of faith still shines — and that the next generation is ready to carry it forward with conviction and grace.

Thank you God that more young people are standing to be bold in proclaiming the Lord ship of Jesus. I pray that it catches to us older saints. In Jesus’ name.

“After reviewing the case, the district reversed its decision…agreed to change their policy…”

Dear LORD and Almighty God, thank You for Sophia Shumaker. Thank You for pressing into the board members to deliver this just decision. Because You are Sovereign and You can command every atom in existence, I pray MORE victories like Sophia’s. Victories in all the areas so deeply needful in these days of confusion. You know them all Father, have Your way in each and every one! I ask this and so much more in the Name of Jesus Christ…our Savior and Redeemer. Amen
