Last night, on CBS’s “60 Minutes,” Scott Pelley, Aaron Weisz, Aliza Chasan, and Ian Flickinger presented the story of Erez Reuveni, a former lawyer for the Department of Justice (DOJ) who alleges that the Trump administration is destroying the rule of law in America.
Reuveni was part of the first administration of President Donald J. Trump, where he defended Trump’s travel ban order, prohibiting travelers from Muslim majority countries from coming to the United States. He was so effective, the journalists note, he quickly took on a prominent role in Trump’s second term.
On March 14, the same day he was promoted to become the acting deputy director of the DOJ’s immigration section, Reuveni and others in his section met with Emil Bove, who had once been Trump’s criminal defense attorney and was then the third-highest official at the DOJ. Bove told the lawyers that Trump would invoke the 1798 Alien Enemies Act to deport more than 100 Venezuelan migrants the administration claimed were terrorists. They would not receive due process.
According to Reuveni, “Bove emphasized, those planes need to take off, no matter what. Then after a pause, he also told all in attendance, and if some court should issue an order preventing that, we may have to consider telling that court, ‘f*** you.’”
“I felt like a bomb had gone off,” Reuveni told “60 Minutes.” “Here is the number three official using expletives to tell career attorneys that we might just have to consider disregarding federal court orders.”
The next day, some of the prisoners sued, and U.S. District Court Judge James Boasberg called a hearing. Boasberg asked Drew Ensign, representing the DOJ, whether the planes would be leaving that weekend. Ensign said he didn’t know, even though, according to Reuveni, Ensign was at the same meeting with Bove he was. Reuveni called that moment in court “stunning.”
“It is the highest, most egregious violation of a lawyer’s code of ethics to mislead a court with intent,” Reuveni told “60 Minutes.”
Boasberg ordered the planes not to leave and ordered the government to return any planes in the air. But instead, more than five hours after Boasberg’s order, the planes carrying the migrants arrived at the notorious terrorist prison CECOT in El Salvador.
“And then it really hit me. It’s like, we really did tell the court, screw you. We really did just tell the courts, we don’t care about your order. You can’t tell us what to do,” Reuveni told “60 Minutes.” “That was just a real gut punch.”
And Trump supporters and this site complain about rogue judges.

i am praying for a wise person to hold those “ shutting down the government” to state the very obvious.

should those in the Congress responsible for shutting down our government have their wages shut off and not replaceable! that is what happens in the world of those whose salaries are shut down.

should political differences mean those paid for doing their work be seen differently? Why is this not true for those we elect to SERVE the whole USA?

Perhaps the fairest treatment of not completing their work as representatives should be Firing?

Heavenly Father, You alone know the evil sources of all attacks and lies being spewed from those who are utterly deceived and misled, walking in a darkness of their own choosing. Your hand of protection continues to cover President Trump and his cabinet. Thank you. May the true King of kings and Lord of lords, Jesus Christ, set His strong arm against all efforts to overthrow your choice of President of the United States, for such a time as this. Every weapon of word and deed set against President Trump and this administration will utterly fail and may justice be delivered in our land, all evil exposed and justice administered swiftly. Cause the powers of darkness to be pushed out and all evil plots destroyed before they can be developed and carried out. Protect our young from believing lies and distortions. Give American voters wisdom to see, hear, and vote according to truth. Clear the air of hate and violence. Restore our cities to righteous leaders who love You and love America. In Jesus’ name, Amen

Why should members of Congress be paid? Perhaps if we withhold their pay, it would change their viewpoint and take care of Americans.

Lord, I pray for our country. It is so divided. Come and intervene and open the eyes of those who are filled with hate, to see that you are the one and only God!

Father of all, King of kings and Lord of lords, bring revival to Congress, to the senate and house, to all the leaders, and include salvation/spiritual awakening with it. Change hate-filled hearts; take those hearts of stone and turn them into flesh. Cause a “rebirth” in our nation’s capitol that will complete defy the attempt of the evil one to destroy our nation. Hover over our capitol, O Holy Spirit, heavenly dove. Pierce the hearts of those so opposed to You. Root out godlessness and evil, the antichrist spirit that roams the halls of the congress, of those who turned their backs on God Himself. By the breath of Your mouth and the sword of Your Spirit which is the Word of God, annhilate this evil spirit set on destruction. Evil spirit of destruction, I command you to depart from every room, hall, office, and building. I send you back to the abyss from which you came. You no longer have any power over our legislators because Jesus casts you into the abyss. This nation and her government belong to Almighty God. I declare and decree it by the blood of Jesus. Amen.

Most people don’t get paid when they don’t work. Why should Congress members?
YHVH, please intervene to bring level-headed Democrats to cross the aisle and vote to pass this CR bill so the government shut-down ceases. Whatever guillotine they fear, political, literal, or ? – may they have the wisdom to fear You more!
