Charlie Kirk’s assassination continues to be a hot topic in newsfeeds, but with that comes a barrage of lies. As intercessors, it’s important that we continually pray about how to respond to these deceptions. As we tackle each one, we should also be interceding for the people and sources who are spreading them.

Statue of Charlie Kirk Angers the Left

The first lie told by the Left this week involves a statue of Charlie Kirk that will be displayed at New College in Florida. The press release provided a sample image of what the statue would look like, “depicting Charlie Kirk sitting at a table, microphone in hand, with empty chairs at the table, representing his love of open, free, and peaceful debate of ideas.”

The Left is upset about what they call “right-wing attempts to control how the Turning Point USA founder is remembered” in order to “suppress criticism of his legacy.” They contend that conservatives and New College are trying to “whitewash” Kirk’s legacy by painting him as a civil rights leader who was a martyr for truth and faith.

Free Speech Must Not Be Abandoned

In spite of the Left’s rhetoric, New College President Richard Corcoran stressed that Charlie Kirk knew that “universities are ground zero for free speech and the marketplace of ideas. These ideas are not luxuries, but the foundation of a free republic.” Furthermore, he emphasized that Kirk’s life and death remind all Americans that the nation will not survive if we abandon those rights.

“At New College, we will not step back from this responsibility–we will champion it and seek to be known as the number one college in the nation when it comes to supporting civil debate and freedom of speech,” declared Corcoran.

The Left wants Americans to believe that Charlie Kirk doesn’t deserve to be remembered. But the truth is that he will never be forgotten. His voice is louder than it ever was. His legacy will shine forever through a new generation of truth tellers.

Leftist Gamer Says “More Conservatives Should Be Killed”

The next lie told by the Left this week is just plain shameful and deplorable. Left-wing political commentator and gamer Steve Bonnell, also known as “Destiny,” suggested that conservatives should be killed more often so they will be afraid to attend events or speak out.

Bonnell ranted, “You need conservatives to be afraid of getting killed when they go to events, so they look to their leadership to turn down the temperature. The issue is right now they don’t feel like there is any fear.” Bonnell spewed profanities as he continued with his rant.

Gamer Thinks Trump’s Presidency Led to Kirk’s Death

Bonnell appeared on CNN in August, expressing his hatred for Charlie Kirk. He was also a guest on the Piers Morgan show, where he stated, “If you wanted Charlie Kirk to be alive, Donald Trump shouldn’t have been President for the second term.” Alex Jones of Info Wars reacted to Destiny’s vitriol, saying his comments were “the literal definition of terrorism.”

Some on the Left are defending Destiny’s comments by insisting they were “hyperbolic” and meant to induce “thinking,” rather than advocate violence. But this isn’t the first time this popular gamer/live-streamer has made inflammatory statements. He is well-known for his crass, crude, and irrational behavior.

Bonnell Caught in Another Lie

After his hateful comments regarding Charlie Kirk, Bonnell claimed he was immediately banned from the Twitch streaming platform, decrying free speech violations. On social media, he complained that his “entire income is now gone” because of conservatives. But Bonnell’s lie was quickly uncovered when savvy online investigators revealed that Bonnell had already been indefinitely banned from the Twitch platform in 2022 for “promoting, encouraging, or facilitating discrimination or denigration of a group of people based on their protected characteristics.”

The Left claims they’re advocates of free speech, but that’s only when their free speech is protected. Making threats and justifying violence is “ok” when it “protects democracy.” The problem here is that the Left’s version of democracy is actually slavery to sinful ideologies.

Much prayer is needed for people like Steve Bonnell, who believes conservatives need to be “more afraid of getting killed.” We pray that the saving power and love of Jesus Christ would transform this man’s heart.

The Jimmy Kimmel Incident

The third lie told by the Left this week revolves around late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel. Recently, his show was pulled off the air after he made insensitive, disparaging comments about the assassination of Charlie Kirk.

On his show, Kimmel falsely suggested that Kirk’s alleged assassin was a MAGA supporter, declaring, “We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it.”

Kimmel Suspended

Kimmel’s comments were initially met with a suspension by the ABC news network (parented by Disney); however, he was allowed to return to the airwaves after “thoughtful conversations” and negotiations.

In contrast, the Sinclair Broadcast Group, which owns over 30 affiliate stations across the U.S., decided to block Kimmel’s show. They released a statement which said, “Beginning Tuesday night, Sinclair will be preempting Jimmy Kimmel Live! across our ABC affiliate stations and replacing it with news programming. Discussions with ABC are ongoing as we evaluate the show’s potential return.”

Turning Point USA posted on X, “Good for @WeAre-Sinclair for blocking Kimmel from its 31 ABC affiliates.”

Leftists Unite to Support Kimmel

Leftists like Howard Stern called Kimmel’s suspension “horrible” and “outrageous,” while Stephen Colbert decried that the suspension was “blatant censorship” to appease Trump. The New York Post reported that “an ACLU-organized open letter condemning Disney’s suspension of ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ drew signatures from roughly 400 Hollywood figures—including Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep, Jennifer Aniston, Robert De Niro, and more — urging support for free speech. The letter frames Kimmel’s suspension as occurring amid pressure from FCC chair Brendan Carr and affiliate threats by Nexstar and Sinclair, and calls on Americans to defend the right to speak without government or corporate retaliation.”

Kimmel Makes Public Apology

On Tuesday, September 23, Kimmel returned to his show via ABC and offered an apology.

“I’ve been hearing a lot about what I need to say and do tonight, and the truth is, I don’t think what I have to say is going to make much of a difference. If you like me, you like me. If you don’t, you don’t. I have no illusions about changing anyone’s mind. But I want to make something clear, because it’s important to me as a human, and that is – you understand that it was never my intention to make light of the murder of a young man… I understand that to some, that felt either ill-timed or unclear, or maybe both, and for those who think I did point a finger, I get why you’re upset.”

Kimmel changed subjects and his tone throughout his monologue, going from an apology to telling his viewers that the American government is crushing free speech. Kimmel also did not directly apologize for his comments about Kirk, but instead said, “I don’t think the murderer who shot Charlie Kirk represents anyone. This is a sick person who believes violence is the solution, and it isn’t.”

At the end of his monologue, Kimmel mentioned Charlie Kirk’s memorial and the fact that his widow, Erika, forgave the man who murdered her husband. “She forgave him. That is an example we should follow. If you believe in the teachings of Jesus, as I do, there it was. That’s it. A selfless act of grace. Forgiveness from a grieving widow. It touched me deeply. If there’s anything we should take from this tragedy to carry forward, I hope it can be that,” Kimmel stated.

Not everyone was satisfied with Kimmel’s apology. Executive Producer of Turning Point USA and close friend of Kirk, Andrew Kolvet, responded in an X post where he wrote, “Not good enough. Jimmy, it’s simple. Here’s what you need to say.”

“I’m sorry for saying the shooter was MAGA. He was not. He was of the left. I apologize to the Kirk family for lying. Please accept my sincere apology. I will do better. I was wrong.”

While there are many opinions about whether Kimmel’s apology was sincere or not, as well as whether or not his show should have been blocked, the truth is that this man needs Jesus. Much of Hollywood is lost and taken captive by the things of this world, which includes radical Left ideologies. We must pray that their hearts would be penetrated by the gospel and they would be led to the truth through repentance.

Lord Jesus, now more than ever, we need Your help in navigating this deceptive world. It is only through prayer and the guidance of the Holy Spirit that we can hope to break down these giant walls of lies. Blow the trumpet and knock them down.
