From the Daily Wire:
The former Republican congressman was confirmed in a 47-43 vote for the most prominent unfilled cabinet post in the Trump administration. His confirmation marks the end of a months-long holdup in the Trump administration campaign to secure a permanent UN ambassador.
“THANK YOU President Trump & the U.S. Senate your trust and confidence to Make the UN Great Again #MUNGA,” Waltz wrote on X Friday.
Democrats delayed the nomination and were successful in getting Waltz and others’ nominations returned to committee. Waltz’s nomination passed out of committee — for the second time — on Wednesday morning.
Senator Rand Paul was reportedly the only Republicans Senator to vote against Ambassador Waltz’s confirmation, while Senators John Fetterman, Mark Kelly, and Jeanne Shaheen were the only Democrats to vote in favor of the confirmation.
The UN ambassador role has seen a great deal of controversy since President Trump won reelection. The President initially picked Representative Elise Stefanik to serve in the role, though he later withdrew his nomination in order to preserve the House’s fragile Republican majority.
Meanwhile, President Trump tapped then-Representative Mike Waltz to serve as his national security advisor. However, following a controversy in which a journalist was mistakenly added to a Signal chat featuring sensitive information, Waltz was ousted from the role. Shortly after his ouster, however, the President called on Waltz again, this time to fill the role of UN ambassador.
As the Daily Wire mentioned, Democrats sought to delay Ambassador Waltz’s, who was initially nominated in May, confirmation. As the ambassador awaited a vote, Dorothy Shea, President Biden’s UN ambassador, continued to serve in the role.
War rages in both Ukraine and the Middle East. Tensions are rising with China. Much of the world is still feels uneasy about President Trump’s tariffs. And, amid all this global tension, Ambassador Waltz has just been confirmed. Let’s pray for him as he steps into this critical role!
