I Prayed have prayed
Father, we ask You to guide President Trump as he uses tariffs to bolster America's global standing, combat our debt, and restore American manufacturing. Give him wisdom and strength, and let him hear Your voice.
Reading Time: 3 minutes

This week, President Trump signed executive orders to impose tariffs on more than 67 countries that are shipping goods to the United States. These percentages range from 10 percent and 41 percent, the highest percentage being Syria and Brazil. Although there was initial widespread concern and skepticism, recent latest deals and results have brought dollars into our nation and turned skeptics into believers.

Pray for your fellow intercessor.

So how do these tariffs work and how has the administration decided who should pay what? President Trump implemented a global tariff base rate at 10% and then increased the individual tariff based on the country’s monetary deficit to the United States: the higher the deficit, the higher the tariff rate.

The results are speaking for themselves with tariff income bringing a budgetary surplus in June—the first time in 10 years we are seeing this turnaround for America’s finances.

These tariffs are the latest in a line of moves that President Trump is making to not just lower our nation’s deficit, but to also showcase America’s strength around the globe.

As mentioned earlier, his moves have divided his supporters, with many who voted for President Trump suffering as their supplies for businesses are more expensive, leading them to have to make severe changes or cuts.

What are some other benefits of the President’s tariff strategy?

The administration is also making moves to encourage domestic manufacturing with extra grants and funding through the Small Business Administration, to encourage U.S.-entrepreneurs and companies to fill the gaps the tariffs have left.

Secretary of Labor Lori Chavez-DeRemer said, “Under President Trump’s leadership, this Administration is working tirelessly to restore America as the world’s manufacturing superpower – securing trillions in investments and bringing hundreds of thousands of jobs back home. I am thrilled to partner with Administrator Loeffler to usher in a new Golden Age of American manufacturing.”

Supports of the tariffs (even those not traditionally Trump voters) say that they will change the American landscape and bring in a new age of American manufacturing, getting millions back to work and shrinking the size of welfare reliance.

They also say that these tariffs will shrink our national debt at a rate unseen since the times of Andrew Jackson (the only President to erase the national debt), offsetting the debt-increase criticism of the Big Beautiful Bill.

Lastly, supporters say that the tariffs will fix unfair trade practices around the world. Many industry leaders say that for too long the United States has allowed other countries to charge higher tariffs on the U.S. while we allow them to import for nothing. The tariffs are ultimately a chess move by President Trump to increase America’s power across the globe as not just a military powerhouse, but also an economic one.

So, what is our role in praying for our government on this complex but critical issue? Three points of prayer emerge:

  1. Pray for the wisdom of the administration, that they are negotiating the best tariffs and deals for our nation—that they would be a blessing for our citizens.
  2. We also need to pray for our small businesses, that they can adapt to this changing environment and continue to be an integral part of the United States.
  3. Pray for our diplomats that the agreements they’re working on with foreign nations are upholding God’ values  and the destiny the Lord has for America.

The American people need to understand that tariffs are born mostly by the consumer and only slightly by the companies which are importing, and there is no evidence that tariffs have caused an increase in manufacturing.

Father God, bless your Holy and Righteous Name. You are worthy of ALL glory, honor, and praise. You alone are God and beside You there is no other. Thank You for no man can take Your place.
You reign supreme. I thank You for revealing yourself to US. Many are giving thanks and praise to President Trump, but You said You would not share Your glory with another. Your will be done.
In the Mighty and Matchless Name of Jesus. AMEN.

Lord God,I pray that those businesses that have brought filings to court against the president using the Emergency Powers act would fail in their attempts to sabotage this necessary effort to change our trade imbalance and correct our national debt. This was certainly an emergency that needed such a response that the courts must recognize this and Grant favor and justification. May your will be done we pray in Jesus name.

I pray that those businesses whose cost of goods is affected by tarriffs will find new ways to bolster their businesses and new sources of supplies and revenue. I pray patience as this decades-long imbalance is reversed.

Lord Jesus, You know how these tariffs will play out internationally. I pray that the outcome will include a return to a manufacturing base in our nation. We desperately need for this to happen. Dependence on foreign nations to produce our goods, especially China, is reckless, and downright dangerous. May Your will be done.

You do realise that tariffs are a tax on the consumer. If there is a tariff on an import the retailer will pass it on to you when you buy the item. Returning manufacturing to the USA is a fantasy when it can be done better and cheaper in China or India. Taxation without representation.

Kindly consider asking President Trump to put pressure on Japan’s Prime Minister Mr Shigeru Ishiba to get him , that is Prime Minister Ishiba, to change/shift Japan’s Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem Mr Ishiba is said to be a Christian so I emphasised 1st Samuel 2:30 in my postcard to him. He didn’t really reply to me. “Them that honour Me, I will honour but those who despise Me shall be lightly esteemed.”
You’ll notice from my spelling of honour that I am a New Zealander planting churches in Japan since 1960.
I will add that tariffs if I understand them, simply cause people to sell or buy from the US whichever is advantageous to them as manufacturer or handler of goods/services. Isn’t this usual in business?
If anyone wants to read my memoirs ask Amazon for Richard Goodall’s Memoirs entitled God’s Sonrise on Japan’s Samurais. I am unsalaried since 1960 and happily so and I didn’t write God’s story with me in order to make money.

Richard, I pray blessing on your ministry in Japan. May the Gospel go forth in great power, that Japan might see and know Yeshua. Soften hearts and prepare them to hear and respond in faith, Holy Spirit.
