As Congress struggles to decide on Medicaid cuts, states across the nation are revealing shocking amounts of fraud and waste taking place inside the program.

Just the News reported the details:
Arizona became the latest state to unveil failures, as Senate Majority Leader Janae Shamp, House Majority Leader Michael Carbone, and other GOP lawmakers released a report showing that 130,000 of the 388,000 state residents who applied for Medicaid last year were not verified, suggesting up to $6 billion a year in Medicaid fraud.

The report showed only 24% of Arizonans who applied for the assistance were vetted, and of those people who did get vetted properly, 34% weren’t supposed to be accepted, but they got the Medicaid benefits anyway.
Arizona is only one example. Just the News details additional stories of fraud from Minnesota, North Carolina, Ohio, Rhode Island, and Texas. In each story, fraudsters billed Medicaid for unnecessary or outright fraudulent services.
In each of these stories, bad actors managed to steal millions, sometimes even tens or hundreds of millions, from Medicaid. Those millions came from our pockets and were intended to help people, not to be stolen by criminals.
These reports come as Congress is hurrying to have the Big Beautiful Bill on President Trump’s desk by July 4. Medicaid has been a sticking point in both chambers of Congress, and Democrats have tried to frame Republican-led cuts as an attack on a vital service. However, these reports show that fraud is taking place. Cuts may very well be necessary to put an end to the abuse and thievery in this program.
Let’s pray that this information reaches the right people in Washington, and let’s pray for an end to waste, fraud, and abuse in all part of our government, especially Medicaid.
