SCOTUS to Hear Arguments Over Religious School Tomorrow
Tomorrow, the Supreme Court will hear oral arguments for Oklahoma Statewide Charter School Board v. Drummond, a case that will decide the future of publicly funded religious schools in America. With Justice Amy Coney Barrett recusing herself, a tie is possible. Let’s pray!
From CBN. In Oklahoma, the debate over public schooling and religious freedom is intensifying as efforts to remove barriers separating church and state coincide with aĀ pivotal Supreme Court case. The outcome could set a major precedent for how the Constitution is applied in public education.

Oklahoma Attorney General Gentner Drummond is in a legal battle with the state’s charter school board, aiming to prevent taxpayer dollars from funding faith-based institutions. In a statement following Governor Kevin Stitt’s executive order to position Oklahoma as the nation’s strongest defender of religious liberty, Drummond warned that if a taxpayer-funded religious charter school is allowed to open in Oklahoma, “it will only be a matter of time before taxpayers are funding schools dedicated to Sharia law, Wicca indoctrination, Scientology instruction ā even the Church of Satan.” …
Meanwhile, Oklahoma State Superintendent Ryan Walters, a member of the charter school board, argues that the priority should be giving families public funding to send their children to the school of their choice. He said the issue centers on the freedom to express religious beliefs without government penalty and the right to school choice. …
At the heart of the case now headed for the Supreme Court is St. Isidore of Seville Catholic Virtual School, which seeks to become the nation’s first publicly funded religious charter school. Walters said the school would be eligible for funding in a way private schools are not. …
Civil liberties organizations, including the ACLU, argue that public funding for religious schools violates the separation of church and state. …
St. Isidore is represented by First Liberty Institute, which argues that the Constitution’s Free Exercise Clause should take precedence over state laws restricting religious schools from receiving public funds. …
Twelve states have filed briefs supporting public funding for religious charter schools. Justice Amy Coney Barrett has recused herself from the case due to a personal connection, potentially setting the stage for a 4-4 tie. Oral arguments begin April 30, with a decision expected this summer.

May the Holy Spirit guide the judges to lean toward what this country needs and not only their personal interests.
Drummond is ABSOLUTELY CORRECT that āif a taxpayer-funded religious charter school is allowed to open in Oklahoma, āit will only be a matter of time before taxpayers are funding schools dedicated to Sharia law, Wicca indoctrination, Scientology instruction ā even the Church of Satan.ā ⦠We do NOT want the government funding religious schools. We do not want the government involved in telling any religion what they can or cannot do. If the government gets its claws into funding religious schools, then the government gets a say of how to run those schools, whether it be Christian or any other religion. We must pray for SCOTUS to uphold the Attorney Generalās position!
Father, grant the Supreme Court to decide what the answer should be. I think tax credits to go for a school parents chose is a good choice, perhaps the wisest. May your will prevail.
I don’t want our tax dollars to help fund a Jihadist school or a Witchcraft school. This needs to be thoroughly thought through.
We already use tax money for religious instruction. Itās called humanism. The religion thatās teaching CRT, DEI, evolution, and gender identity. Itās the public school. So that ship has sailed. Now let parents choose instruction based on their values.
Lord, you have told us to raise up our children in the fear of the Lord. May truth and justice for all prevail.
Perhaps the specifics need to be rewritten, mandating that a certain percentage of voters involved must sign a petition for any such religious school to qualify for government funding.
Christians must pray for the wisdom of Solomon in our state as well as in our national leaders.
We must not open the door to public funding of āreligiousā schools. We SHOULD support President Trumpās advocacy for LESS BURDENSOME TAXATION. on citizens, and we must advocate for a means of opting out our children from public education and receiving tax credits for doing so.
āAll your children will be taught by the LORD, and your children will have unlimited peace.ā
Isaiah 54:13
Yes, I’d rather see parents to have the right to opt their children out of public school education and receiving tax credits. That is a great idea!! God’s will be done . . .
I am not sure after reading this exactly what issue is at hand: funding the schools or giving funds to parents to decide where they want to educate their kids. I ask for the latter. I believe it is rightly said… and we can look at other seemingly honorable attempts… that if SCHOOLS are funded, we will in short order be subsidizing Islamic Madrassas and other humanist- focused schools. Yes, give parents the $, not the schools.
Taxes cannot go to private organizations. Fact.
Praying for the City Elders of Oklahoma! Godspeed ahead and thank you for following Christ’s Kingdom vision of bringing together pastors, civic and business leaders together for such a time as this! This is the fruit of your efforts! Praying for the same for our City Elders here in Virginia. I’m praying that God will change Justice Barrett’s heart and fill her with the Holy Spirit power she needs to stand against any one who is manipulating her to be silent and vote FOR school choice.
You do not want public funded religious schools. Our taxes will be paying for Islamic schools or any other false teaching. Salvation alone is in the finished work of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on the cross. Acts 4:12 “And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men, by which we must be saved.”
Ephesians 2:8,9 ” For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not as a result of works that no one should boast.”
Please pray.
Father, let Your Kingdom come and Your will be done in our public education system. Sweep our country with revival fire so that the Bible is read again in public schools, so that faith is honored, so that God Almighty is honored in our school system. Rebuild the foundation. Thank You, Lord. And may Your will be done in this particular case. May Your wisdom penetrate the hearts and minds of the Justices. Amen.
I pray that ALL schools are funded through their own private means and NONE are paid through our taxes. āEducationā is not found in most versions of Bibles. Discipleship is. If we truly want Biblical revival and reformation, we must raise our children in His Ways, and return to the original Way that American trained her children. The public school system started in the 1800ās to supplant our Heritage and it has. Letās STOP using the worldās anti-Christ methods and return to His? ššššššššššššš

I agree 100%! Taking government money makes one beholden to that government, and pretty soon government comes in and says what can and cannot be taught and who can and cannot be hired. I worked at a Christian school for many years, and it saddened, discouraged, and angered me that only ONE church out of about 40 represented supported the school financially, and that was very minimally. Christians must support Christian schools, and Christian parents should pull their kids out of public school.
Lord Jesus, I pray that ALL of the SCOTUS members will listen for, and hear, the still small voice of Holy Spirit giving them guidance and direction in the decision that they make regarding this very important issue. May Your will be done. Thank You Jesus.
The Roberts supreme court is near the worst in American history. Almost as bad as the Warren court of decades ago. Biden appointed his “woke” justice to the supreme court. I really don’t expect any relief out of the supreme court. All the supreme court has done is make matters more expensive and conditions worse for Americans!
Father God, Your Will be done.
With God, His will be done in spite of the worlds ways. Letās remember in this Easter season, it was a cross built by man that manās (misplaced) justice would be carried out. Yet, God constructed His plan for that same cross to āsave manā. We now have justice from The Justifier. His truth will prevail, his Word is to be taught in discipling our children and others. Manās way prevents. Godās Way (Jesus) enables. His gospel message of life must be told. Who?? doesnāt want the truth to be told
A mighty Amen and Amen.
When I came to your statement, āManās way prevents.ā my mind automatically went to āGodās way produces.ā ā Then remembered several other accounts where God producedā¦ā¦ā¦.
Does not wisdom call out?
Thank you for your post.
