What’s Happening to FEMA?
DHS Secretary Kristi Noem revealed her plans in a recent Cabinet meeting to “eliminate FEMA.” Meanwhile, two legislators on Capitol Hill sponsored legislation to separate FEMA from the DHS and turn it into an “independent, Cabinet-level agency.” With seemingly contradictory plans coming out of Washington, what’s going to happen to this agency?
From Government Executive. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said during Mondayās Cabinet meeting that the Federal Emergency Management Agency would be eliminated. At about the same time, in contrast, a bipartisan pair of lawmakers introduced legislation to separate FEMA from its parent department.
Have you taken your place on the wall?
Noemās brief mention of FEMA came during her discussion of various DHS operations, of which the disaster management agency is a component. After detailing ongoing immigration enforcement efforts at the southern border and developing Coast Guard operations, the secretary concluded her remarks by noting that āwe’re going to eliminate FEMA.ā …
On Capitol Hill, a bipartisan House duo sponsored legislation that would turn FEMA into an independent, Cabinet-level agency.
The bill comes from Rep. Jared Moskowitz, D-Fla., who formerly served as director of emergency management in his home state, and Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Fla. …
āAs these emergencies continue to grow larger and more widespread, the American people deserve a federal response that is efficient and fast. To achieve that, FEMA should be reformed,ā Moskowitz said in a statement. āFEMA currently sits under the bureaucracy of [DHS] ā and with around 20 other agencies and offices under that umbrella, the set-up simply doesnāt work. DHS has become too big and too slow to oversee what needs to be a quick and flexible emergency response.ā
Likewise, Donalds said in a statement that FEMA should report directly to the president, as it has become āoverly-bureaucratic, overly-politicized [and] overly-inefficient.ā
Under the bill, the president would appoint, pending Senate confirmation, a director for FEMA and up to four deputy directors. …
The measure also would maintain FEMAāsĀ 10 regional officesĀ and give the agency its own inspector general.
FEMAās fate has been an open question since a January visit to North Carolina where Trump said, while touring destruction caused by Hurricane Helene, thatĀ he was considering getting rid of the agency. The president suggested that states should play a more significant role in disaster response.

Emergency Management should be localized. Each State should be responsible, because they know what is necessary for the safety of their state and they are accountable to the people of that state. This should include public training. Having an educated, trained and prepared public can greatly reduce the effects of emergency situations. Matthew 22:36-40 states that we should love our neighbors. If we do this we would be prepared to help. Not simply point those in need to a federal government agency or fund to nullify our responsibility to love our neighbors.
It is one way I can do my part. Watching and praying only listen to the truth. Am in the flashpoint army. Listen to the spirit of truth on victory news and flashpoint.
Evaluating the effectiveness of a department is called good stewardship and should be the responsibility of the government and being responsible for the TAX dollars given by the people for American victims of tragedy should be a priority.
FEMA needs to be eliminated because of its unacceptable response to disaster events in the USA! It has prioritized the needs of illegal alien criminals over the needs of American citizens. Their response to the Hawian fire, the Ohio train wreck that resulted in the evacuation of the community due to the fire, toxic chemical exposure, and contaminated water, the pitiful North Carolina flooding, etc., are just a few of its failures!
Agreed, DBee.
Amen!
