In anĀ orders listĀ released Monday morning, the high court agreed without comment to hear the case ofĀ Kaley Chiles v. Patty Salazar et al., which challenges Coloradoā€™s Minor Conversion Therapy Law.

The Alliance Defending Freedom, a religious freedom legal nonprofit representing Chiles, celebrated the court’s decision to hear oral arguments in the case.

ADF CEO Kristen Waggoner said in aĀ press releaseĀ on Monday that she believes state officials have ā€œno business censoring private conversations between clients and counselors.ā€

ā€œColoradoā€™s law prohibits whatā€™s best for these children and sends a clear message: the only option for children struggling with these issues is to give them dangerous and experimental drugs and surgery that will make them lifelong patients,ā€ stated Waggoner.

ā€œWe are eager to defend Kaleyā€™s First Amendment rights and ensure that government officials may not impose their ideology on private conversations between counselors and clients.ā€

In 2019, Colorado passed the Minor Conversion Therapy Law, which prohibits what critics derisively call “gay conversion therapy” for minors, after multiple similar bills had failed in past years.

Daniel Ramos, executive director of the LGBT advocacy group One Colorado, released aĀ statementĀ at the time claiming that the new law was a “significant step in protecting our LGBTQ youth.”

“No young person should ever be shamed by a mental health professional into thinking that who they are is wrong. Mental health care should be ethical and affirming for all people ā€” including LGBTQ young people,” stated Ramos. “I applaud the Colorado General Assembly for their bipartisan support of this measure. Protecting our LGBTQ youth is not a partisan issue.”

In September 2022, Chiles filed a legal challenge against the law, claiming that it violated the Free Speech Clause and Free Exercise Clause of the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

A three-judge panel of the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of AppealsĀ ruled 2-1Ā against Chiles last September, upholding an earlier district ruling in favor of Coloradoā€™s therapy ban.

Circuit Judge Veronica Rossman, a Biden appointee, wrote in the majority opinion that “Chiles had not met her burden of showing a likelihood of success on the merits of her First Amendment free speech and free exercise claims.”

“By regulating which treatments Ms. Chiles may perform in her role as a licensed professional counselor, Colorado is not restricting Ms. Chiles’ freedom of expression,” she added in the ruling. “In other words, Ms. Chiles’s First Amendment right to freedom of speech is implicated under the MCTL, but it is not abridged.”

Circuit Judge Harris Hartz, a George W. Bush appointee, dissented, arguing that the panel majority failed to explain why “talk therapy is to be afforded lesser First Amendment protection than speech in general.”

“Is the majority stating that professional speech should be treated differently under the First Amendment from identical speech by a nonprofessional? That would fly in the face of what the Supreme Court has recently told us,” wrote Hartz.

Last November, the ADF filed aĀ petitionĀ for a writ of certiorari on behalf of Chiles, urging the high court ā€œto clarify that the First Amendment applies in the counseling room.”

Oh LORD Jesus please remove the supernatural blinders from their eyes, hearts and ears. Open their hearts that they will crave truth and light! Draw them to Yourself and save them Father in Heaven! They need You, they need Truth! Humble them and use them to turn this part of history around to righteousness in making the decision to not allow any more children to be destroyed by this!

CO therapist. I should be able to introduce myself to my clients as a specialist with Eating disorders, Somatic and Attachment focused EMDR. I should be able to say without fear. Here is a quote…. weather from the bible or others to say. How does this land for you.
If a client says to me they want to know more about Jesus should say just like I do with anything. What part of you wants to know that? what brings that up for you? They say to me I don’t want to go another day without knowing Jesus. Do I now refer them to a local church to do that, give them information. Do I say would you like to say a simple prayer? Would that feel ok? If I do not spend more than 10 min of the 53 min that is resourcing. That is not a type of therapy. Where does a person receive training for “conversion therapy” I have never heard of it. We recieve all types of training DBT, CBT, IFS, EMDR. Where is it . It was named as I understand it by a court. Does that make it a therapy or an adverb. If I teach my client to do positive declarations. that is an example of things that might occur in a session. The client needs to own their part in a session. They get to say. That feels funky, I feel weird saying that. I don’t want to do that. OK I accept that. The next week they say. I felt that did not work for me. What came up for you when you said…. or what happened when you did… so we do this somatic tapping what did you notice? Did it get bigger, smaller, feel hot, cold. that tells them the distress is moving and they are alive. Is it a good thing or not. Give yourself a hug and rock. view the room right to left. Notice the feeling of feet on ground, the chair, hair glasses.

Just some thoughts.
Ask God what needs to happen in the room. There is a program in FL that does counseling and deliverance ministry as 2 step they might be helpful. I forgot the name. So some therapy then some deliverance work but they are all priv pay. I think the later is done with 2 persons which covers legal accountability issues.

Father, thank you for this case. I pray that Colorado’s law would be undone, that Satan would not win against our children. Bless Alliance Defending Freedom as they come before the court and give them favor. Forgive the opposition for their ungodly stand, give them repentance and bring them into your kingdom. May your righteousness be over the court.

Dear God-
Please guide the SCOTUS to strike down the Colorado law that censors speech from a professional counselor to help minors struggling with gender dysphoria or even homosexual tendencies! The law seeks to supposedly protect patients from shame. But there is no shame in the holy Lord of Lords. David the psalmist wrote ā€œlet me not be ashamedā€! How can Christian counseling lead one to shame if it helps guide someone to the loving arms of the Lord Jesus? He who Christ sets free is free indeed. Please give the SCOTUS wisdom in this very important case!
In Jesusā€™ name,
Amen

We are not saved to remain in our sin. It is for freedom, Yeshua has set us free! The 3 P’s of salvation – I have been saved from the penalty of my sin, I am being saved from the power of sin, and I will be saved from the presence of sin. And sin is defined by what YHVH prohibits in Torah, and the intents and motives at the root of our sin revealed by Yeshua. We must submit to Holy Spirit revelation and conviction to be sanctified – the ā€œbeing savedā€ process of salvation. If we do not, in an increasing and continual basis, then I contend we are not saved.

Since a truly Christian counselor cannot effectively counsel without the truth of The Bible, YHVH, I ask that this Colorado law be struck down. Those who oppose freedom of speech that includes the Word of God, are afraid of truth, and need of a revelation of the fear of God instead. Please reveal Yourself to them.

Lev. 18 contains one list of what is prohibited and includes: incest, adultery, intercourse during the menstrual cycle, child sacrifice, h, b. Deuteronomy adds more instruction, and both h and h prostitution would also be prohibited. In the Renewed Covenant when there are references to sexual immorality, it is assumed that the definition of what is immoral had already been defined in Torah, because as Yeshua said, ā€œI did not come to abolish Torahā€. In Revelation 22 there is a list of those who would not enter the gates to the heavenly city and gain access to the Tree of Life and it includes h, those involved with the occult and with drugs, the sexually immoral, murderers, idol-worshippers, and everyone who loves and practices falsehood. This list is not necessarily an exhaustive list but again focuses attention back on Torah instruction. Taking the whole counsel of Scripture we might say that what YHVH permits and blesses is loving sexual intercourse between a man and woman in a monogamous married relationship.

    Apparently, there is a ban on certain words, but it is impossible to speak Bible truth without using them – thus all I could do was use an initial.

    For those who are unsure what the initials stand for, I’ll try another way to communicate.
    h = same sex expression
    b = intercourse with animals
    h = opposite sex intercourse (prostitution)
    h = same sex expression (prostitution)
    h = same sex expression

Many of the comments below seem confused and/or confusing and/or actually misleading. If I understand correctly, this case will decide whether a Colorado law will be struck down or upheld. The Colorado law prohibits licensed counselors from providing therapy to help those caught in sexually perverted lifestyles to convert to a sexual lifestyle that is Biblical. I won’t use the word ā€œorientationā€ in regard to sex or sexual expression because it is meaningless. We are either male or female, determined by our Creator. And our Creator also defined what is prohibited in regard to sexual expression.

Lord Jesus, shine your holy light upon the Supreme Court today and let them understand the meaning and depth of the word therapy. That it can be used for good or evil. let them decide that all truth and liberty would prevail.

Lord Jesus, how far our nation has gone astray morally. I pray that, as SCOTUS hears this case, that Your will prevails. More importantly, Lord Jesus, our nation needs to be restored in its sense of right and wrong morally. By Your grace, please, bring righteousness to a place of prominence in our nation. Thank you Jesus.

All speech is permitted by our Constitution because it is assumed that any speech that one side deems inappropriate can be countered by additional speech. And may the best man/woman win.

The Lord does not make mistakes. Every soul that arrives on this planet has a specific purpose, a plan. And yes, that includes the sexual orientation. What needs to happen is compassion and instruction about how that orientation is to be honored and used for HIS purpose, not ours. Just focus on Jesus, people. Please? Have a blessed day.

Sin has become so normal that it takes a lawyer supported by a therapist to convince a girl that she is a girl. Same for boys. It has been already widely observed that teens usually are confused through adolescence, on many issues-, as they mature. That is only compounded when grown ups- who themselves did not actually mature- but have acquired adult work and/ or professional titles,..use their state authorized influence to weild the influence of their distorted and immature, – and- Godless thinking- onto a still developing adolescent.
To make matters worse in our times- the parents these days are often as fearful and confused as their adolescent teens.
The result is what has been taking place,..no actual adults piloting the ship. The child’s body is ruined… for life.
How many “re-transistioning”.. young adults do we have to hear warning speeches from, before “”grownup ” judges, lawyers, and parents- get the message?

God’s order is the right order.

Adolescent confusion is NOT sound authority to implement physical, mental, and emotionally life altering medical procedure- upon whom-,all of which previously completed and committed to, are now in bondage to shame and regret.

Unchecked sin has consequences

Lord, thank you that for the most part, America is on the mend. Lord help our citizens remember your original plan for life that is written in your book- The Bible.
Please cause your holy spirit to overshadow ALL of our teens here in America with your protection. Please stop confused judges and lawyers- and doctors, from ruining children’s already fragile lives, as they struggle through maturing into hopefully God fearing grown-ups.

In Jesus Name, Amen

So it is ok for the lgbtq and others to indoctrinate children to their false beliefs and to drug and mutilate children for their evil cause. Counseling seem to be a less destructive way to deal with the problem provided the counselor isnā€™t pushing the evil agenda of satan. I pray that SCOTUS see through this manipulation of justice by satan and rule to strike down this law. I also pray that God show the error of this evil to all those who pushed for and supported for this evil. This not only violates our rights mentioned in article but Godā€™s law which is above all laws. May they repent and ask for Godā€™s mercy. Stand strong on the wall and trust in Godā€™s perfect plan. šŸ™šŸ˜‡šŸ™

I personally believe the assumption that someone with a same sex orientation is hard wired that way genetically. I believe their orientation is due to their environment, their life experiences. The LGBT community has made significant efforts to influence young and even very young people to be open to and embracing having a same sex orientation, and their efforts have influenced many young people in that direction. I believe in fact expressing one’s sexuality is contrary to God’s will, because it says so in the Bible. Therefore therapy to help someone come in line with God’s will should not be against the law. The State of Colorado’s law I believe conflicts with freedom of religion. Bible believing Christian who discover there young children feel they have a same sex orientation should have the right to have their children go through this therapy. Prohibiting this is a violation of Freedom of Religion.

I am a retired Licensed Counselor in Colorado. I met many who were seeking Transsexual surgeries. The pain they suffer emotionally showed me many times, they were making a big mistake. Colorado Counselors are not trained or prepared for this type of counseling. These individuals carry many deep rooted issues, believing a sex change will fix there problems. Most men spent teenage years comparing with other teens, and could not measure up to what they believed they should be. If counseling could help them learn to love who they are, great. But counseling will only add to the fantasy that a change is a fix to happiness, if counselors support there delusion. I vote No! Colorado Counselors do not have this knowledge . I pray the court denies this request.
