The order revokes an executive order issued by former President Bill Clinton in 2000, “Improving Access Services for Persons with Limited English Proficiency,” that required federal agencies and recipients of federal funding to provide language assistance to non-English speakers.

However, Trump’s order notes it does not “require or direct” any change in services provided by any agency. …

“A nationally designated language is at the core of a unified and cohesive society, and the United States is strengthened by a citizenry that can freely exhange ideas in one shared language,” Trump wrote in the order. …

Trump has been outspoken about designating English as the nation’s language, specifically in 2024, as he criticized former President Joe Biden‘s immigration policies. …

The order states it is intended to “promote unity” and “cultivate a shared American culture for all citizens,” while ensuring consistency in government operations and creating a pathway to civic engagement. …

This is a “no brainer” that should have been done years ago! The loss of money spent in education alone is massive….providing services to parents in their language for meetings etc. Times that by multiple languages for a diversity of culture. If someone moves to the US it is now up to them to learn our language. The only way to have a real melting pot!

Making English the official language of the United States of America is perfectly sensible. I don’t know why this was not already done long ago. No legitimate reason why not.

FINALLY!! This has been needed for a LONG time. This is America; we should speak English – and if we don’t, we should LEARN it!
I lived in Germany 9 years as a military spouse. I honored the country, and it’s customs, by learning German! I made a lot of wonderful German friends and was asked many times to be the translator for other (Ametican) military spouses. While there, I learned that MOST German speak English but won’t until Americans show respect for their country by at least attempting to speak German. That attempt always opened the door of communication, acceptance, cooperation – and friendship!
The point? This country was founded by English speaking citizens so English has always been our langusge. And people who legally enter our country to become citizens should learn and speak English. But they should never lose their native language as that is part of their heritage.
Amen on this Executive Order! It is an answer to prayer!
