Dems Ask Pres. Biden to Ratify Equal Rights Amendment
In the twilight hours of his presidency, Democrats are asking Biden to officially ratify the Equal Rights Amendment.
From The Epoch Times. Over 120 House Democrats are calling on President Joe Biden to conclude the process for adding the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) to the U.S. Constitution.
Have you taken your place on the wall?
The push, spearheaded by outgoing Rep. Cori Bush (D-Mo.) and Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.), wants the lame duck president to urge the national archivist to treat the ERA—an amendment from 1923 that would extend specific constitutional protections on the basis of sex—as having been ratified, despite questions about whether such a move is legal. …
They framed the effort as a response to President-elect Donald Trump’s second term, accusing him of having been “openly hostile to reproductive freedom, access to health care, and LGBTQIA+ rights.”
Such a move would have vast implications for U.S. legal life—but any effort by Biden to do what’s being requested would almost certainly be met with substantial challenges by both conservative groups and the incoming Trump administration, who would seek to advocate for clear definitions on sex and gender preference issues.
For supporters, the ERA is an overdue codification of sexual equality. …
For critics, meanwhile, the ERA has the potential to cause wide-reaching and unforeseen changes to U.S. law depending on how the courts interpret the brief text …
Other Republicans have expressed concerns that the ERA could lead to forced inclusion for transgender-identifying athletes in women’s sports, or could have other unforeseen impacts due to the proliferation of transgender ideas in American life. …
History of the ERA
The letter is the latest development in a debate that’s continued for over 100 years now.
First proposed three years after the 1920 ratification of the 19th Amendment, which gave women the right to vote, the ERA’s core clause reads, “Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex.” …
In 1923, it didn’t get very far, languishing in committee and seemingly fated to join the vast historical wastebasket of failed constitutional amendments.
However, in 1972, both chambers of Congress revived and passed the ERA, initially giving a seven year deadline for ratification. By the time the 1979 deadline came around, 35 states had elected to ratify it, still three short of the 38 needed to add the ERA to the Constitution.
Congress extended the deadline to 1982, but this also came and passed without any additional states ratifying it.
In the intervening years, three state Legislatures—Nevada, Illinois, and Virginia—voted to ratify it between 2017 and 2020.
That technically means that the ERA now has the minimum support needed to become the 28th Amendment. But the final ratifications came well after the 1982 deadline put forward by Congress.
Legal Uncertainty
The core legal question hinges on whether the 1982 deadline is applicable at all. Bush and the Democrats joining her letter contend that it isn’t. …
Ultimately, it would likely fall to the Supreme Court to litigate the questions underlying the case, including the core question of whether the ERA was a genuine part of the Constitution or not.

Lord, Thank you for protecting us from this dangerous and evil amendment in the past. Please keep it dead and sealed it up in the trash can of history.
Father, I ask that you intercede and prevent President Biden and his administration from doing anything to negatively affect this nation. I ask this in the mighty name of Jesus, amen.
DEAR LORD GOD
PLEASE ALLOW THE NEW ADMINISTRATION TO BE ABLE TO NEUTRALIZE ALL THE MASS PERDONS, SPENDINGS, AND MISCELANEOUS ACTS OF TREASON BY THE PEDOPHILE PRESIDENT JOE BIDEN, WHO RAPED HIS DAUGHTER ASHLEY WHEN SHE WAS 8 YEARS OLD IN THE FAMILY SHOWER, MULTIPLE TIMES. READ HER PUBLISHED DIARY.
I ASK IN JESUS’ NAME
AMEN
The 1979 deadline has come and gone so it over. If allowed to continually moving the deadline until they get the result wanted then why have a deadline. Also the ratification votes should be redone each time it is brought up votes for it may change to against just as those states that did not ratify it changed to for it between 2017 to 2020. Do you see what mess this causes the way they are trying to get it through. How about rewriting it with clarifications on todays concerns then have each state have their ratification vote on the most current. If an amendment is added to constitution it needs to be perfectly clear because it affect US citizens. As for me I don’t want abominations to God get special protections. I have said enough trust in God and His perfect plan. 🙏😇🙏❤️
Father, I pray that it will not rise again, in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, amen.
Father, may this amendment be dead. It was beyond the time and some of the states rescinded their approval, but that wasn’t accepted. Why not? If they can extend the time, should they not show when approval was rescinded? Father, work your will in this. I praise your name for you are good. Bring righteousness to our government and help your people to fight for righteousness.
I well remember all of the media attention surrounding the push to get the equal Rights amendment passed.
A very Godly woman, Phyllis Schlafly, led the resistance to its passing in 1972. May God bless her for her leadership and her Godly wisdom.
We should expect to have to resist all such weasley efforts by the enemy to shovel his agenda into our Constitution and laws.
May ERA know a quick demise, with no possibility of resurrection, Lord!! Wouldn’t it nice if “sex” or “gender” was always defined correctly as biological, since that can be ascertained as a fact – instead of claims and pretense being given legal standing. I cannot tell you how offended I was the first time I saw on an application, instead of Male/Female being the choice – it asked “How do you identify? M/F”!! How ridiculous!! When it asked for my income, I wanted to say “Well, I identify with having an income of ____”. (whatever income benefitted my purposes) Equally ridiculous!!
I pray that Gid will remove the veil over everyone’s eyes, mind, thoughts, and deeds. May we all see and understand that the devil is in the details and come to our senses and turn back to God.
I believe at this point as it did not pass in the allotted time that it should be considered dead and any effort to revive it should have to start over completely, from the very beginning with entirely new wording and have to be passed by the states again.
I was among those who fought the ERA amendment in the NC legislature. We did it, & I praise God it was laid to rest. I pray it will not be revived again.
I do not like this ERA concept. It is more political theatre and if any change in that 1923 ruling should be made, it should read, “biological sex” .
