Hamas’ leader is dead. With him out of the picture, Israel has the best chance yet of freeing the hostages and ending the war.
From National Review. Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Thursday that the killing of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar gives Israel a “great opportunity” to stop the Iranian-led “axis of evil” in the Middle East and to free the remaining hostages in Gaza.

Netanyahu delivered a video statement shortly after the Israel Defense Forces and several Israeli officials confirmed Sinwar’s death. The Hamas chief was one of three terrorists killed during a firefight with Israeli soldiers in the southern city of Rafah on Wednesday.
“Hamas will no longer rule Gaza,” Netanyahu promised in the four-minute video, as reported by the Times of Israel. …
The prime minister went on to address the families of the hostages, vowing to return all captives still in Hamas’s custody. About a third of the 101 hostages are believed to be dead, according to Israeli estimates from September. …
In a direct message to Hamas terrorists, Netanyahu promised that all their leaders would be eliminated like Sinwar was. He said those terrorists holding hostages will be spared by the Israeli military if they surrender their weapons and release the hostages. But for anyone who harms the hostages, Netanyahu promised “blood will be on his head” and a “reckoning” will come upon him.
Israeli defense minister Yoav Gallant similarly called on Hamas militants to release the hostages and surrender amid the ongoing war. …
From Axios. Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar’s death creates an opportunity to resume negotiations for a deal to release the 101 hostages still held by Hamas and establish a ceasefire in Gaza, Israeli and U.S. officials say.
Why it matters: Negotiations for a deal have been frozen for two months, in part because of Sinwar’s hardline position and because he was incommunicado, Israeli and U.S. officials said.
- Sinwar’s death is a huge blow to Hamas, which has lost most of its military and political leadership.
It also provides Netanyahu the “victory picture” he’s been looking for since the Oct. 7 attacks and gives him political space — both with the Israeli public and inside his cabinet — to move toward a deal.
- Israeli officials said that, unlike Sinwar, other Hamas leaders and commanders might be more ready to surrender and even go into exile as part of a deal to end the war. …
The big picture: A Netanyahu aide and another Israeli official involved in the hostage deal negotiations said Sinwar’s death opens a window of opportunity to get a deal for the release of the hostages in return for a ceasefire in Gaza and said there is a need to work fast to push for such a deal.
- “Prime Minister Netanyahu’s focus right now is to return the hostages by any means. Sinwar’s elimination creates a big opportunity to do that. Netanyahu wants to use this to resume negotiations on a deal,” Netanyahu’s aide said.
- White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan also said Sinwar’s death creates an opportunity for reaching a hostage and ceasefire deal that the Biden administration wants to seize. …

Father let the persona of Israel be again like a Mighty One for whom no one can stand against. as Israel was to the people of Jericho, so let your people again be feared and cause anxiety among their enemies. Don’t look for Hamas to be finished. Another wacko will step up and become leader, just as misguided as Sinwar was,and become reasonableI do pray that Hamas will become one less enemy for Israel to have to deal with in their battles. I also pray, Lord, that those who are being held hostage will soon be released. Israel has sent a clear message to Hamas. Hopefully, they will heed the warning, and become reasonable, and willing to negotiate the release of the hostages.
