Intercession for Righteousness and Justice: Addressing the Iniquity of Abuse in Church
The list of organized churches and associated parachurch organizations dealing with revelations of sexual, spiritual, child abuse, and more is unfortunately too long to recount. Adult survivors and children deeply hurt by these abuses often have the similar stories, if they ever reveal the trauma: stories revealing that their cries for help were ignored, dismissed, rejected. In too many cases, Christians have acted to protect leaders, churches, institutions, rather than the vulnerable and victimized.
Join others crying out to the Lord day and night.
For many, church etiquette frowns upon identifying any denomination as being dishonorable to others in the Body of Christ, as if the reputation of the denomination and its members surpasses our call to righteousness. 1 Corinthians 6:9 – 10 asks, Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. Adult survivors and children impacted by sexual exploitation and spiritual abuse have experienced unrighteous ones who are in fact fornicators, idolaters, adulterers, homosexuals, sodomites, and spiritual thieves. The abusers have and are operating as covetous, revilers of truth, depending upon extortion and threats to continue hurting the very little ones Yeshua corrected the disciples for trying to keep them from Him in Matthew 19:14, saying “But Jesus said, “Allow the children, and do not forbid them to come to me, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.”
Are we to hate the men and women, created in the image of GOD, who have done these horrible things? No. Harboring hatred in our hearts toward any person or people dishonors what Yeshua commands of us in Luke 6:27, But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you. This call to love is an agape love, and is only possible through the power and fruit of Holy Spirit.
Are we to protect the Christian “brand” or leader or church by continuing to only passively address the Enemy’s work through them to kill, still and destroy children? No. We all must confess and turn from wicked ways, including passively or actively allowing structures and systems of abuse. In 1 Corinthians 14:33, the expected wholeness of GOD’s Ecclesia made clear, for God is not a God of unruliness but of shalom. As in all the congregations of God’s people. In His wholeness there can be no abuse.
Let’s pray:
Father, forgive us for any way that we have knowingly or unknowingly allowed abuse to occur in our churches, community organizations and homes, because of pride or because we have idolized people.
Give us discernment about everyone we are entrusting with children and the wisdom to know how to act as You reveal wolves in our midst.
Teach us to love the abuser as You love them, even as we do all that is necessary to remove them from the assembly according to Your precepts.
Strengthen us to judge rightly, but to refrain from condemning men and women to hell as if it is within our authority to do so in this age.
We ask that You render justice for every adult survivor and child who has suffered abuse in churches, para-church organizations, camps and other Christian-branded entities.
Fill our hearts with lovingkindness and tender mercy toward the wounded ones, who will soon accept Jesus as their Savior and Lord.

Justice does not include vengeance? It disturbs me greatly when I discover a child abuser, but what does this article say we should do? “We all must confess and turn from wicked ways, including passively or actively allowing structures and systems of abuse. ” It isn’t clear to me the action God expects me to take. The coverup has occurred for far too long, in an attempt to make the church seem void of such atrocities. Every system we have has been touched by this darkness. Crimes such as these should be revealed and dealt with as the law dictates. That is if the law is Godly and not favoring the perpetrator. Our government is allowing boys and men into women’s bathrooms where children and women are molested by perverts posing as women. This crime needs to be dealt with seriously on all levels, especially the church. We need to stand for not allowing such behavior and enforce the appropriate punishment, not as vengeance but as a matter of law.
Heavenly Father, I now come before Your Throne of Grace in distress over the abuses inflicted upon our children by some members of the clergy in their respective churches or places of worship. Unfortunately, these abuses are one too many. O Lord, we seek Your justice for these victims by Your mighty and holy righteousness. These abusive ministers are laden with iniquity, but You call them to Your forgiveness, salvation, hope, and life. From Your mighty and holy Word, I now claim the following Promises: (1) “The orphans and the oppressed will be terrified no longer, for you will bring them justice and no one will trouble them.” [Psalm 10:18 TPT]; (2) “You’re a God who makes things right, giving justice to the defenseless.” [Psalm 103:6 TPT], and; (3) “The oppressor will come to an end, and destruction will cease; the aggressor will vanish from the land. In love a throne will be established; in faithfulness a man will sit on it – one from the House of David – one who in judging seeks justice and speeds the cause of righteousness.” [Isaiah 16: 4B-5 NIV]. Lord God, hear my prayer for those physically and emotionally afflicted. In Christ Jesus’ mighty and holy Name, and by His Authority, I pray. Amen.
I believe it is crucial to follow King David’s pattern in not judging the King Sauls who may have lost God’s anointing. It is equally important to distinguish grace from pride/ haughtiness. The first three chapters of Revelation are point blank directed at saints. The warnings are that we can, indeed, lose our gift of salvation. Hebrews 6 also warns that those who fall away cannot get a video game do over. Allow me to explain that the “fall away” is an intentional effort, not unlike selling indulgences. God provides for slips, falls and flat out crashes-I know since this topic is personal but outside the temple walls. Why would Jesus say to pray “forgive us our wrongs?”
But, to those this topic covers, we must love them. However, the offenders need to know that their Creator, the One Who says 3 times in Scripture that He doesn’t want anyone to perish, also says they have a millstone with their correct neck sizes ready for delivery.
Father, the vision Ezekiel saw behind the temple walls takes away my appetite. Get rid of the fake church along with the intentional God haters so that Your Son’s bride can be all made up for Him when You send Him. Now, Father, for those who were taught and who teach wrong, reveal Yourself to them in dreams and visions as You promised.
For Your glory, for Your fame, for Your name. Amein.
