In a landmark decision that has sent shockwaves through the adult entertainment industry, Pornhub — the largest online platform for sharing sex videos — has disabled access to its site in Texas. This move comes in response to the implementation of a new state law, House Bill 1181, which requires commercial porn websites to use “reasonable” methods to verify that users are at least 18 years of age before they can access X-rated content online. Violators face fines of $10,000 a day.

The law, championed by pro-family advocates like Texas state Rep. Nate Schatzline and Attorney General Ken Paxton, is seen as a significant victory for conservative Christian values. It represents a firm stance against the pervasive influence of pornography, which many believe is detrimental to the moral fabric of society.

Pornhub and other pro-porn plaintiffs had sued Texas to keep HB 1181 from taking effect. They claimed that the law violates the First Amendment and the privacy of porn users. However, the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the law’s age-verification requirements as constitutional, overruling a decision by a federal district judge who had sided with the porn industry plaintiffs.

This decision is a win not just for Texas, but also for families across the nation. Seven other states — Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Montana, North Carolina, Utah, and Virginia — have passed similar age-verification laws. In response, rather than implement age verification, Pornhub has blocked access to all users in these states as well.

The fight against pornography is not just about protecting minors, but also about upholding the sanctity of the family unit and promoting a culture of respect and dignity. As Brady Gray, president of the Texas Family Project, rightly celebrated: “Texas families just keep winning!”

However, the battle is far from over. Pornhub is currently the target of multiple lawsuits accusing the company of profiting from uploaded videos of child sexual abuse, featuring victims as young as 3 years old. This highlights the urgent need for stricter regulations and greater accountability in the multibillion-dollar global pornography industry.

As Christians, we are called to be the salt and light of the world (see Matthew 5:13–16). This means standing up for what is right, even when it is unpopular or difficult. The victory in Texas is a testament to the power of faith, perseverance, and the unyielding pursuit of justice. It serves as a reminder that when we stand firm in our convictions, we can make a difference.
