The Connecticut attorney general’s office has been cited for poor accounting practices costing the state millions in unretrievable debt, and a lack of oversight in overtime compensation that tripled at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Some $10 million owed to various state agencies and the attorney general’s office is likely lost and impossible to recoup as a result of decades of lax accounting practices, state auditors have found. In addition, overtime compensation tripled over one year of the pandemic without proper oversight or approvals, according to a new report released Wednesday by the state’ Auditors of Public Accounts.

The auditors recommend stronger accounting controls in settlements of lawsuits against the state, and in compensation for staff in the state Office of Attorney General William Tong. (Excerpt from CT Insider.)
