This helpful guide to the hearing was written by Ed Whelen in National Review:
Tuesday, Sept. 4: The hearing is scheduled to begin at 9:30. Don’t expect any questioning by senators on this day. After Chairman Grassley opens the hearing, the day will proceed with opening statements of 10 minutes each by all 21 committee members (11 Republicans and 10 Democrats). . . .
And the first day will close—probably around 5 p.m.—with Kavanaugh’s opening statement.
Wednesday: First round of questioning begins. Each senator will have 30 minutes, and the questioning will alternate back and forth between Republicans and Democrats and in order of seniority. . . .
Thursday: The first round of questioning will probably end by lunchtime, even if that means a late lunch. The second round of questioning will then take place, with each senator having 20 minutes. In theory, that could mean another seven hours of questioning, but Grassley will aim to complete Kavanaugh’s testimony on Thursday, so some Republicans will probably waive some or all of their time (and some Democrats might do so as well).
Friday: The committee will hear from four panels of witnesses, 28 witnesses in total (listed here). The panels will be ushered in and out very quickly, and nearly no one will be watching at this point. (Excerpted from National Review, by Ed Whelen. Lord keep them under the shadow of your wings, strength, wisdom, understanding as in the mind of Christ for them to find Your justice and good for this country.
Father we pray to you as the one who can move the hearts of men. Please grant your wisdom to the leaders of this country. Please allow them to see the truth during the confirmation hearings. Thank you Lord for being our God and creator
Father, The word that came to me as I comtemplated these hearings was “snare”. Psalm 124:2-3 says: If it had not been the Lord who was on our side, when men rose up against us, then they would have swallowed us alive, when their wrath was kindled against us; then the waters would have overwhelmed us, the stream would have gone over our soul; then the swollen waters would have gone over our soul. Verse 6 says: Blessed be the Lord, who has not given us as prey to their teeth. Verse 8 says: Our help is in the name of the Lord, Who made heaven and earth. Many of the Senators questioning Judge Kavanaugh are lawyers. D.C. is full of lawyers who love to set traps/snares. However, our help is in the name of the Lord! Proverbs 29:25 says: The fear of man brings a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord shall be safe. Dear Jesus, would You give Judge Kavanaugh a tremendous sense of “safety” as he trust You through these hearings. Give him great ability with words to “punch back” because he has only a fear of You and not a fear of mere men! Teach us how to pray, dear Jesus. The outcome of these hearings will affect the future of America. In Jesus name, Amen.
Father, I thank you for favor for Judge Brett Kavanaugh, with all Senators. Open their eyes to the values he stands upon. Make straight the way for him with no hurdles or roadblocks, that You have not provided him a way to get both over and through. Again, I’m praying Psalms 5:12 for favor upon the righteous. For Your promises always come to pass.
Abba Father, I place Judge Kavanaugh in Your Hands, and I pray for you to move the hearts in those Senators who already have made up their minds against Judge Kavanaugh. I ask that you open their eyes to see and their ears to hear the truth about Judge Kavanaugh, that he will be a justice who follows the U.S. Constitution, and will not try to re-write it to suit his own personal beliefs. Father please speak to the heart of all the Senators, no matter which party they are from, that they will become unified in their approval of Judge Kavanaugh for the U.S. Supreme Court. I ask this and pray this in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ.
Praying Psalms 5:12 for favor upon the righteous. God has promised to surround the righteous with favor as a shield.
Father, I thank you for favor for Judge Brett Kavanaugh, with all Senators. Open the eyes of the Senators to see the excellent nominee they have before them. I bind a political partisan spirit that would seek to divide, deceive or demand irrelevant promises. I loose a spirit of fellowship, unity and love of the laws of our land and for the good of America. Thank you Father for making the way straight for Judge Kavanaugh, for ordering his steps and preparing the way. Thank you Father for righteous men taking positions of authority because righteousness exalts a nation. Thank you for victory! Amen.
