On Tuesday night, the red state of Kentucky elected Democratic Attorney General Andy Beshear, narrowly defeating the incumbent Republican Governor Matt Bevin. In a very close gubernatorial race, Beshear nudged out Bevin by a mere 4500 votes. However, with voting discrepancies already filed in Louisville/Jefferson county, Bevin has not conceded the race, calling for a recount.
This race raises numerous questions, concerns, and points of prayer as we head into the upcoming elections of 2020. What happened affects every American even if we live outside of Kentucky.

First, it is important to note that in the last fifty years there have been twelve governors in Kentucky. Of that, nine have been Democrats and only three have been Republican. An odd percentage for a state which CNN declares “one of the reddest states in the nation.”
Here’s the issue. In the majority of other races in Kentucky on Tuesday night, Republicans won. This includes the office of Attorney General, Auditor, Commissioner of Agriculture, Secretary of State, and Treasurer.
To date, eight states in the U.S. provide for straight-ticket voting. This enables a voter to select one political party’s complete slate of candidates for every office by making a single mark on his or her ballot. Kentucky is one of the eight states.
What does the option for straight-ticket voting signal? It is something the Democrats don’t like, which is why it is getting removed as an option in many states. For example, the use of straight ticket voting in Kentucky and Oklahoma has been part of the reason for the shift from predominantly Democratic to predominantly Republican elected officials. In Kentucky, in 2015, upwards of 40 percent of voters used the straight-ticket option.
The prevalence of straight-ticket options, and if the state is considered “one of the reddest in the nation,” and if such a high majority of other races were all won by Republicans on Tuesday night, it seems more than a bit unusual that the same voters who voted conservative in the other races would vote also for Beshear, who is noted for his support of gay marriage and medical marijuana.
Odds are, based on recent past elections, that many conservatives voted a straight-party ticket. Yet the results in the gubernatorial race do not necessarily reflect that. Our first prayer in this election is that any irregularities or illegalities, if there are any, would come to light.
Other areas of concern where we need to pray are in regards to the previous “calibration errors” with voting machines which have changed votes from Republican to Democrat in states such as Texas, Illinois, Florida, Mississippi, or the extra ballots that have suddenly appeared in recounts, most notably in Florida.
As the recount in Kentucky begins to determine whether Bevins or Beshear wins the seat, let us keep this state in our prayers. Let us also remember that these same areas of concern and prayer need to continue as we head into the 2020 election season. It may be a bumpy ride.
Areas in which to pray:
- Protection against voter fraud.
- Protection from malfunctions, intentional or otherwise, in voting machines.
- Protection from “stuffing” of the ballot box.
- Protection over the voting process so that only citizens can vote and can vote only once.
- Protection against attempts to vote under the names of deceased people.
- That any illegalities will be revealed.
- That any intimidation techniques at the voting precincts would be stopped.

Father we pray for divine intervention and keen oversight as you assign your appointed to administer the recount and remove any who’s numerical ability and accurate tallying is lacking. We pray that governor Bevin stands and rests in faith knowing the plans you have for him as you allow him to see more clearly than ever before that which is steeped in darkness and yet without power in the light of god. May him who sits on the throne, forever in authority and still fully responsible for placing King’s in authority and nations in existence, continue to appoint and re-anoint your choice for Kentucky’s governor. We petition you to grant governor Bevin the gifts of wisdom and patient endurance as you proctor the recount – verifying the spiritual dedication of all involved and binding up the Influence of darkness, so that even the agents of those who oppose the light, will walk in obedient submission to your will. Thank you Father that we can trust you for the outcome and the declaration of victory in your name. May the enemy prepare to become undone.
Lord You see all things, You know all things. I pray for Your will to be done over this election. I pray for integrity, honesty, any lies or deception to be exposed. Forgive the sins of this Nation and it’s people Lord and ease heal our Land. In Jesus name. Amen
Father, we acknowledge that You see all that goes on in this nation and in all of this world. Nothing happens that You are not aware of and when it is not within the realm of Your will You cancel it. One of many examples in the Bible-Your Word-is the life of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. You would not allow the ruler to kill Him until it was time for Him to die for all of mankind. We the people of this Nation cannot see all that You are bringing to pass, but that certainly does not mean that You are not at work bringing to pass You Will. As we pray for Your will to be done, help us to remember that You actually do know what is being plotted in the dark rooms of D.C. and have always known it. Therefore, whatever they conjure does not catch You off guard. Praise be to God Jehovah who is indeed over all. Amen!
Amen and amen I agree with all the prayers that have been offered. Father you are the King of Kings and Lord of Lords you rule and you reign over all. May Your kingdom come Your will be done. Pour out Your Holy Spirit and wake up Your church to see the need to be involved and to agree with You. Father, we do not accept darkness and lies the enemy wants to defeat us with. Father, I ask that You expose any voter fraud, in the Kentucky elections. I ask LORD, if the votes were shredded, trashed or used in any other deceitful way that the wrong doing will be broadcast and proclaimed from the rooftops and what has been found fraudulent will be corrected and the person who has been duly elected with be put into office.

Yes, I agree totally! Also, don’t let this get us down. We were born for such a time as this, and the outward appearance of evil winning is only a smoke screen. Evil has already lost- our LORD Jesus Christ has risen, He took those keys of death and hell, and He has won the Victory! Don’t be dismayed, or discouraged or fearful! Keep praying that good overcomes evil in this election and that we can live in peace. But don’t be alarmed if evil seems to prevail- time is short, redeem it wisely, with joy!
We are not moved by what we see on CNN because we cn know they are not being truthful the truth is not in them. We know that that God is at work and that we always triumph in Christ Jesus. My prayer is that every plot and evil scheme the enemy has designed to take down this nation and our presdent,will fall by their own designs and counsel.
