And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus. (Phil 4:19)

“In the days since Hurricane Maria ravaged Puerto Rico, conditions on the island continue to deteriorate and become a humanitarian and public health catastrophe that could rival the damage caused by Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans.

The fact that the power grid failed creates many obvious problems and some that are not so evident. When the sewer system stops working, wastewater—aka human feces and urine—and seaborne bacteria contaminate the water supply.

This leads to bacterial infections — such as cholera, dysentery, E. coli and typhoid — that can be disastrous. The typical treatments, like tetanus shots or powerful antibiotics, are not readily available on the island, where medical supplies are quickly running out.

According to the Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA), 58 of Puerto Rico’s 69 hospitals are without power or fuel for their generators.

No fuel also means that people cannot readily boil water for drinking or bathing. Danger is imminent with nearly 1.5 million people having no access to clean drinking water, according to U.S. military sources. . . .

With more than 40 percent of the island living below the poverty level, residents must also be able to evacuate without having to fully repay transportation costs to the federal government. . . .” (Excerpted from Miami Herald, commentary by Tomás R. Guilarte, Dean of Florida International University’s Robert Stempel College of Public Health and Social Work.)

“While the government faces criticism over its relief effort for this hurricane-ravaged territory, a North Carolina-based aid group said it is making inroads to some of the island’s hardest-hit communities.

Samaritan’s Purse . . . was using Puerto Rico as its base for other islands, which bore the brunt of Hurricane Irma. When Hurricane Maria brought its unprecedented destructive power to Puerto Rico the staff was quadrupled and turned the focus on the island itself.

The organization flew in one of the first aid planes after the Category 4 Maria made landfall, wiping out the power grid and leaving many without water or food.

‘We were uniquely positioned and could respond immediately,’ said Samaritan’s Purse spokeswoman Shanna Carter, shouting over the roar of plane and helicopter noise Friday at a San Juan aviation center where the nonprofit was offloading cargo.

By Friday, the group’s Disaster Assistance Response Team members had delivered blankets, hygiene kits, heavy tarps and other emergency supplies for 1,200 families in the town of Canovanas, a 30-minute drive east of San Juan.” (Excerpted from Citizen-Times, reporting by Joel Burgess.)

Dear God, please hear our prayers for the people of Puerto Rico. Give them an awareness of your presence and use this tragedy to draw many to yourself for salvation. Give them peace, rest, comfort, healing, patience and love for others who are suffering also. Be with the Samartians Purse workers and all others that are working to help Puerto Rico; give them strength, wisdom, patience and love. Let your might love and power be seen by all. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Lord God Almighty, we, Your people call upon You in the name of Jesus to open doors and remove obstacles that are preventing the necessary aid from being delivered to the people in need. Provide the drivers, let there be gas for the trucks that are standing, waiting to be driven out to the people. Gracious Lord we look to You for the salvation of these devastated people and for their hope and comfort. Amen

Heavenly Father, I come to You in the name of Jesus, asking for the food and pure water to be multiplied to meet the needs of the people as Jesus did while He was here on earth. Nothing is too difficult for You. Thank You that we can bring all our cares to You and trust that You will hear our prayers and provide the needed supplies. May the people of Puerto Rico turn to You and seek Your face. May they know the Truth and be set free. May the churches rise up and minister to their friends and neighbors. May Thy Kingdom come, may Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Amen

GotNew.com reports that Mayor San Juan, Puerto Rico has been accused of with holding food and supplies from residents of the island’s capital in order to milk maximum publicity and political capital from the disaster according to a caller to a New York City Hispanic radio station who idnetifies herself as a Puerto Rico Plice officer from the San Juan suburb of Guaynabo. People are ying because of his behavior. Pray for wisdom if this be true. And if so that the Lord would move this mountain he stands on.

Lord God Almighty, we pray that You anoint the body of Christ to minister to the suffering. We know You multiply bread. You can do all things. We pray for miracles of provision confirm the Word that is shared by Your children. Let Your anointing come upon those who are helping in any way. May even this hurricane and its aftermath work together for the good of all and for Your glory. May nation-wide revival be birthed as a result. We release the shalom of God upon this situation.

Pray for the people of Puerto Rico to come to Jesus, and leave the dead churches: 2 TIM 3:5 THOSE HAVING THE FORM OF THE AWE [FEAR] OF GOD, BUT ARE FAR REMOVED FROM HIS POWER. THOSE WHO ARE THUS TRUST THEM OUT FROM YOU.
