Update: On Tuesday, April 27 we reported on the huge numbers of police in New York City who are retiring or quitting. Seattle is having the same problems, as the following Fox News excerpt details. Scroll down to pray for the police with IFA Contributing Writer Jamie Rohrbaugh. Her Holy Spirit filled prayer is powerful and awesome.
More than 200 Seattle police officers quit their jobs in the last year amid months of frequent anti-law enforcement, racial injustice protests and riots in the city.
Many of the officers cited an anti-police climate in the city – including in the City Council — and disagreements with police management in their reasons for moving on, leaving the department with what Police Chief Adrian Diaz called a “staffing crisis” on Tuesday.
He said 180 police officers quit last year and another 66 officers so far this year. . . .
Diaz said the number of officers left with the department is at “record” lows. “I have about 1,080 deployable officers,” he told KING. “This is the lowest I’ve seen our department.”
He said the department is hiring more community service and crime prevention officers to handle non-criminal calls but said that doesn’t make up for a lack of front-line officers. . . .
Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan’s office said in a statement: “Despite an increased focus on recruitment and retention, the Seattle Police Department continues to lose sworn officers at a record pace due to ongoing budget uncertainty,” an outcome which “Defund the Police” advocates see as success. . . .
The City Council is considering new cuts of $5.4 million to the police department’s budget. But Durkan is cautioning against additional cuts without addressing hiring and retention of officers.
Councilmember Lisa Herbold, chair of the Public Safety and Human Services Committee, said Tuesday that the council has fully funded the police department’s hiring plan for 2021, including money to hire 114 non-sworn employees who work to address public safety issues officers. . . .
“The reductions being considered are from salary savings from officers leaving and do not reduce the number of officers SPD can hire,” she said. (Excerpt from Fox News)
Other cities like New York where anti-police protests have been prevalent have seen the same trend of officers leaving in large numbers. . . .
. . .The members of the NYPD grew so disenchanted with their jobs in 2020 that over 5,300 uniformed officers either retired or quit, an astonishing 75% increase over the year before, amounting to 15% of the total number of officers on the force. The impetus for the officers quitting seemed to be the death of George Floyd and the unrest that followed; between May 25 and June 24, 2020, a whopping 272 officers left the force in one month.
2,600 officers quit and 2,746 filed for retirement, according to the New York Post. The 5,346 officers who left the force were nearly 2,300 more than left the force in 2019, when 1,509 officers quit and 1,544 filed for retirement.
This year, over 830 officers have left the NYPD. . . .
In March, the New York City Council voted for various police reform bills, among which was one to eliminate giving qualified immunity to the NYPD, thus permitting citizens to sue police officers for excessive force or unlawful searches and seizures.
Former Commissioner of the New York Police Department (NYPD) Bernard Kerik reacted to the City Council’s decision, asserting, “No police officer should work in a jurisdiction where they do not have the support of those they work for. Beginning today, I will no longer recommend young people consider the NYPD as a career.”. . .

FATHER GOD please protect all of our police officers, sheriffs, and all law enforcement officials all across America. Please supply all of their need according to YOUR riches in Glory by CHRIST JESUS. Please encourage and strengthen them with YOUR Power and Might in their inner man in JESUS Name. Please send laborers to them that don’t yet know JESUS as LORD and SAVIOUR so that they will become born-again! We claim this in JESUS Name!. FATHER GOD I bind the enemy on the elected officials among us that have abused and usurped the power given to them by the people. Please raise up the voters all across America to peacefully and prayerfully demand that all of their constitutional rights as well as law enforcement’s constitutional rights be upheld; or let these elected officials that are using their elected office to ignore our rights be removed quickly from office! Let them honor the laws of the land or be recalled or impeached legally. FATHER GOD please encourage Americans to act swiftly to save our law enforcement all over, and our country in the PRECIOUS, MATCHLESS, POWERFUL NAME OF JESUS! AMEN! I pray for Law Enforcement Officers every day. I put them on my daily list a few years ago before all this craziness now. My prayers for them have changed. I pray that those who don’t know our Lord and Savior would find Him and cling to Him; that God would change their hearts so that they would have inner peace. Now I also pray for their protection – not only from bodily harm but from mental, financial harm from their employers, the media and people who want to hurt them for just doing their jobs. I pray for their families too; I pray that God will give them peace and to seek the Peacemaker. It breaks my heart to see their discouragement and I totally understand it. I don’t blame them for wanting to either retire or find new employment. When I see a Law Enforcement Officer, I make a point to thank them for being there in my community. I live in a town of 50,000 people in northern California and we simply don’t have these huge issues either. I thank them anyway. Lord, keep Your hand on these men and women who are out there on the front lines protecting my family and me. Give them hope, Father. Amen.
Heavenly Father, uphold Bernard Kerik for being bold to speak out against the tearing down of the NYPD. Keep your protective hand over the remaining officers. May those that chose to leave, may they also be protected and lead them to find sustainable work in another field. In Jesus name. Amen.
I am the wife and mother of police officers. Police risk their lives daily with little respect and less pay. Most of our lives we lived at or below poverty level though my husband worked full time and sometimes a second job as well. My husband has cancer now and is about to retire but he is afraid we can’t make it on his retirement income. My son is barely making ends meet as well. With all this stuff going on now and with the low pay they receive it’s no wonder they can’t keep enough officers anywhere now. At my husband’s department they are in need of replacing about half the force because of loosing officers to higher paying departments. My son has changed departments several times for higher paying positions to try to feed his family. This is just ridiculous that officers who risk their lives and suffer such disrespect from some community members don’t even get paid enough to support their families and have to continue working with cancer because they can’t afford to retire! Pray that people will pay police like their lives depend on it!!!

I am beyond angry with those who declare that the rabid minister in Canada called LEOs Nazis for carrying out commands from government leaders. He needs to speak with those who demand these regulations instead of yelling like a nut at officers. Shame on him! No small wonder that children who see their parents badmouthing police end up not showing due respect to officers. Parents need to be very careful about what kind of example they are for their children.

Father, we come to you, as your people, humbling ourselves, seeking your face and turning from our wicked ways, and asking you to heal our land! Protect the faithful policemen and women that seek to do your will. Put your hedge of protection around them, wherever they are. Thank you for each one of them. We ask this, in the name of Jesus.

We live in Manhattan and I make a point of saying “thank you” to the men and women of law enforcement, particularly NYPD, since they often receive curses instead of blessings. Lord forgive those who curse, strip the power of the curse off of our law enforcement officers and return blessings to them — blessings of salvation, courage, wisdom, protection and Presence of the Living God. In Jesus’ Name.
Thank God for the men and women who are staying at their posts. Lord, please bless, encourage, and strengthen them. And raise up many more to take the places of the ones who’ve left.

New York City has become a social sewer due to poor leadership. I am sad for the New Yorkers who made it the great and thriving metropolis fall into decay. It is now reaping exactly what it has sewn. The once shining example of hope and possibility is being devastated by a brood of vipers who obviously prefer to rule in hell rather than serve in heaven.
The decimation of NYPD and police departments across the country opens the door to a federal police department. That appears to be the goal of those who hold power in Washington. They fail to recognize, there is no other power than Jesus where justice and protection resides. Abide in Him and He will abide in You, New York.
Remove personal liability for individual officers and keep it with the departments in which they serve. If a department finds fault with an officer it should be up to the department to correct, discipline, or terminate the offending officer. You do not punish the many for the few.
Blue lives matter also.
So many have cheered on the pastor in Canada who has used horribly vile language toward police officers who were ordered to come to his church when the pastor refused to abide by the regulations set by GOVERNMENT LEADERS, not by POLICE OFFICERS. So now this is exactly what I knew would happen in time. And so who will replace the good police we now have? They will be replaced quickly by those who would delight in misusing their power to do whatever they choose to show citizens that they are in charge, and it won’t be pretty. Happy now?
I’m a little confused by your comment regarding government regulations.
Yes, of course, we are to be subject to governing authorities, and all its layers, because they have been appointed by God(Rom 13:1), and as we know, God’s authority is over ALL! And He is the God of order.
Among other things, God has commanded His children not to forsake the assembling of ourselves together. He has also commanded us to preach the Word, and to go and make disciples.
These commands, which this pastor was engaged in obeying, take precedence over what government authorities may say. This Canadian Pastor was using his God-given sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7) to discern that the government and its deputies were asking him to disobey God, so he chose – wisely and rightly – to fear God, and not man. This brave pastor had likely confirmed, beforehand, in his heart, where his ultimate trust lay.
As fellow children of the Most High God, we also must act with discernment. Any government regulation that contradicts what God has directly commanded for his children must be courageously rejected, which is what this Canadian pastor did.
It is also what Stephen did, what Peter and John did, what Paul and Silas did, what Paul alone did, what John did, what Jesus Himself did – which led to His crucifixion, burial, and resurrection, for OUR sins.
This is where that courage spoken of in the previous article comes in. And, such a courageous stand needs to be firmly determined – right down at the heart level – BEFORE we’re looking down a gun barrel.
It is scary to oppose the force of government, particularly when it is armed, but – as followers of our Lord Jesus, if the voice behind that gun pointed at our head is asking us to disobey the Voice of the only begotten Son of God, who laid down His life to set us free – because He SO loves us – then we must courageously – in the courage that comes only through the Holy Spirit – choose to show our love for God by obeying Him above all others (John 14:21), and leaving the results with Him, just as Abraham did, when God asked him to sacrifice Isaac.
I heard a sermon a few months back which basically said: Do as you are told, UNLESS it’s
1. immoral
2. idolatrous
3. interferes with the spreading of the gospel
I think those are pretty good lines in the sand. What do you think?

We need to speak the truth in love, with courage, and for the sake of the honor of our Lord Jesus. He has told us if we are ashamed of Him, He will be ashamed of us, before His Father in heaven.
This pastor was doing nothing wrong in the eyes of God; in fact, he was obeying Him. I believe his choice of words was highly influenced by the tyrannical horrors he had fled, and he was appalled to see the very same tyranny expressed in the country he had fled to for refuge. We do have to recognize that, as Christians, we are in this world – but we are not of it, and our ultimate authority is Jesus (Matthew 28:18).
Jesus did not always speak sweetly to the self righteous, and these police obviously knew they had no leg to stand on, as they quietly left. There was no bloodshed.
We need to resist the devil, and he will flee. (here, the ungodly demand for the church to scatter was only a tool of the devil, who hates the church) Sometimes immediate resistance is the only thing the devil understands.
If I had children, I would most certainly hope to model and teach them to know and obey God above all, no matter the consequence, and to speak the truth in love, no matter the immediate response.
I have many friends among the police around here; many would sympathize entirely with this pastor’s actions. We would come to one another’s aide here in a heartbeat, and often have each other’s back in prayer. I’m extremely grateful for them, and often tell them so.

I have been in fervent prayer for our Law Enforcement officers for a long time and the tremendous challenges they face in this day and time. It is unfortunate, but not surprising at all, that they are leaving in droves.
Without our police patrolling the streets there will be increasing lawlessness, needless to say.
My son, Mitchell, is 21 and about to graduate from the Police Academy. He will graduate with top marks and the the best marksmanship record. He is also in our National Guard. He sees what the nation is facing and is choose nv to step up. Father, call more of Your kids into law and justice positions in the land! Strengthen those that daily desire to uphold law and order and defeat lawlessness and chaos. Release hope and courage to them in this day. We declare that this nation will honor it’s law enforcement officials and that they will be protected from.d dry weapon that the enemy sends to trap or thwart them. Help them to be strong and courageous and not terrified or disheartened. Wake up this nation to the freedoms we enjoy and those that daily defend them. Forgive us for partnering with lies and lawlessness. Pour out Your Spirit in revival!

In a recent webinar from Israel, one of the Biblical scholars made a simple, but profound statement:” The opposite of grace is disgrace; the opposite of law is lawlessness.”
I believe that truly we all do not want lawlessness. The police officers and sheriff’s deputies are the first line of defense for citizens. They cannot have too much training and support. They put their lives on the line everyday trying to make the best decisions possible. And yet there are no 100 percent correct decisions made. There will always be those who make terrible decisions. We all are under God’s law – to love the Lord Your God with all your heart, soul and mind and to love your neighbor as yourself. I pray that for all 7 billion plus persons on this earth! God bless each one in these last days that we prepare for Jesus’ coming in the clouds to take His Bride home and then seven years later to judge and purge the world! In the name of Yeshua HaMachiach, Jesus the Messiah!
I know police officers and sheriffs deputies and they are no different to you or I, many of them knowing Jesus. Human beings with faults and failings. There are some rotten apples in the barrel as there are in any walk of life but let’s not tar them all with the same brush. I respect them for who they are and what they represent and they have a difficult job to perform which has increasingly become more scary during the times of demonic unrest.
Father in heaven I appeal to You on behalf of these men and women who willing go out on the streets day by day not knowing what they may face.
I pray for their safety and ask you to send Your guardian angels to protect them from those who seek to undermine them and cause them harm.
I pray that all will see them as the men and women that they are, with a difficult job to do.
I pray for them to walk in peace and not in fear of what the day may bring.

Attention all Police Officers…. Please do not leave your jobs and put yourselves out. Just move to cities that want you to police there. If they don’t want officers in their cities what do you think will happen? I know for a fact when the streets start filling with rivers of bloodshed from innocent lives, they will be begging for Law enforcement to come back. Evil will soon destroy evil and they will destroy themselves. Father I ask for you to hold up these officers that have jobs to do and protect them from the evil and hate that is in this country. I have been constantly praying for our Law Enforcement officers and they continue to need prayer. It grieves me, but I am not surprised at all that they are leaving in droves. Officers, please know that we stand with you through this time of uncertainty. For without our police, the nation will become more and more lawless.
Romans 13:1-14

We live in a broken world that needs more love, more respect for each other, more understanding, more wisdom, more kind deeds, more truth, more prayer, more forgiveness and more God fearing leaders.
What if our law enforcement officers were reduced in numbers so greatly that evil would overcome good? Lawlessness.
Lord give us as your children the strength, endurance, courage, boldness and wisdom to keep praying for Your will to be done, for trusting you Lord, to keepfocused on the things that matter to You. Be with our law enforcement officers each moment that they faithfully serve to protect us. Give them wisdom and strength to perform their job with honor and integrity. Protect them and their families. Awaken us, help us all to do good and love each other. “For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed.” Unite our hearts in love. Amen
